I used to have a large pencil cactus that I decorated with red pepper lights. Everyone who saw it was delighted! I'd say it qualified as an alternative Christmas Tree.
My husband and I are using a limb from our backyard as our Christmas tree. It's a little bit funky and a little bit Charlie Brown!
When I saw the ladder-as-tree picture on AT last year, I knew it was for me. I wrapped light strings around my 6 ft ladder and hung ornaments from the cords. The lights glow and reflect beautifully off the aluminum. I put the Christmas cards I received on the steps. Try it!
