Taking a cue from the modular party that is going on in the floor coverings world, Liza Phillips has come up with a great idea. Alto Stair Treads are hand knotted wool mini-rugs that you can mix and match to dress up and quiet down your stairs...
They are available in four color sets, each with six solid colors and six related patterns. We particularly like how this provides an opportunity to add color and drama to a space that is often ho-hum. Standard treads are $70, top and bottom treads are $90. (Via ATSF)

i can give you more resources for carpet runner and stair carpets. check here. http://www.wholesalecarpets.co.uk
This is an old post but it inspired me to try out the alto treads on my own staircase, and I just wanted to say that they are great. The price was $42/tread which included the adhesive. Total cost was reasonable (We looked at hand knotted stair runners that would have run us almost $2000, the treads were a third of that). Once they have been affixed they are not a tripping hazard, and as long as you are not running up and down your stairs (which isn't really safe anyways) there should not be a problem. And they look great!! And are so soft!! Thumbs up.
