Blogging a Green Remodel

Blogging a Green Remodel

Jul 20, 2007

With everyone going green these days, how can you tell which companies are offering the best products out there?

For starters, you can check out Celia Canfield's blog, EcoVertex – where she's chronicling the green remodel of her Sonoma home.

Her posts cover a variety of topics, including paint, flooring, countertop materials, tiles and even toilets.

She recently detailed the pros and cons of EcoTimber pre-engineered maple flooring. Its beauty goes in the plus column, she writes, but it tends to have "more knots, heartboard anomalies, and mineral streaks than what one might be used to."

We love the bathroom tiles that she's chosen: white subway field tile from Fireclay in one, and 1-inch square iridescent glass tiles from Oceanside in another. In the latter bathroom, she also went with pebble-rock for the shower floor.

In one of her early entries, Canfield admits to being "a newbie to the land of green advocates," which we think just adds to the blog's appeal. She's learning about things as she goes along, and sharing her knowledge with the rest of us.
