is $17.50 a yard the going rate these days? i haven't bought fabric in years but i love these and may want to get some pillows done with these fabrics. just seems sorta pricey.

LittleRock - I can't find decent fabric for less than $10-12 a yard (I live in NYC). Considering that Purl Soho is out of NYC and that those fabrics are super extra hyper mega very cute, I'd say $17.50 is pretty reasonable. They would look great as pillows!

you can probably find this fabric for a few bucs less than 17.50 a yard at fabric.com or on ebay. This particular line is more than her usual fabric because it is upholstery weight. Normally Amy Butler's fabric is around $8 a yard.

Maybe I should just roll up in Hancock's and see if they have some similar stuff....probably not but I have issues with ordering something like fabric that I can't actually touch and look at.

i'm pretty sure hancock sells amy butler. i'm a habitual online shopper so i usually just order a samples of fabrics i think i like.

I've ordered embroidery and fabric from Purl Soho. Their customer service is great. Reprodepot also has a good selection of fabrics, starting at $6.50 per yard; a good source if you like vintage or Japanese imports. Alas, no new Amy Buttler there.

I don't know what some people expect - but $17.50/yard is quite reasonable.

$14.98 at fabric dot com. First time orders ship for 2.95. I try not to order anything from new york since its always more expensive, especially specialty stores that sell fabric and yarn.

I don't think 17.50 is reasonable at all. Try ebay. I generally buy fabric for 6-9 dollars a yard in DC.

The reason why this particular line is so expensive is because it is home decorator fabric. Which means it is a heavier weight and can be used for upholstery. Her quilter weight fabric lines are typically around $9/yd.

I've already gotten some of this fabric and for those of you concerned with the price keep in mind that its upholstery-weight fabric and is also wider than cotton fabric for quilting, I think 52" instead of 45". So when you compare it to the fabric they sell to the trade its a good deal if you need enough to make a slip cover or do drapes. All that being said you can get it for less on ebay, just watch out for sellers selling it by the half yard.

I would check out Etsy, they always have Amy Butler fabrics and they're 6-9$ per yard.

Look in the phone book under "Quilt Shops" most of them carry Rowan Fabrics, including Amy's. Any they don't have they can order for you.

$17.95 is not unreasonable for upholstery weight fabric. But that is not a good weight for pillows and curtains. Never fear, those same fabrics are in standard weight cottons at ~$9/yd. Those and many more are available to your local quilt shop. You should just visit to look around. There are even classes to help you put those pillows, purses, panels together. It will be hard to ever go back to Hancocks.
