What I Love About My Small Home:
I love how personal it is. I think of it as my "beaux nouveau" apartment, since it has art nouveau touches in a Beaux Arts building. The front room is almost solemn, with artwork from the Baltics. The Cherner chairs still, unfortunately, have water lines from surviving a flood in Houston. The bed-sit in the back is cozier, with art mostly from Macedonia. I loved designing the window seat room divider. Mostly my apartment reminds me of how lucky I am to have lived in many places, and they're all here together, in miniature, in my apartment.
Three of My Best Tips and Tricks for Creating a Successful Small Space::
It will always be a work in progress, so refine as you go. Study: draw inspiration from others. It was after reading in AT about Gideon and Tracy's Pocket Knife that I really understood that I didn't have to be confined by the traditional rules for any given space. Why not have the living room in the bedroom and an art studio in the hall closet? You will be happiest in creating your home if it represents you at your most authentic. You don't need a lot of space to be real.
