Name: Amy
Location: Portland, Oregon
We live in a small, 742 square foot condo in the Pearl District of Portland, Oregon. While we've lived here for 5 years we just recently completed a full remodel…
With two people and a dog we really had to make the best use of the space and did this with floor to ceiling kitchen and office cabinetry, built-ins and a nuetral color palette. My husband and I did all of the design and he did most of the work including all of the cabinets. I like a more traditional aesthetic but my husband prefers modern so we think this is a good mix of both styles! Hope you enjoy...
Thanks, Amy!

Is it just me or do the windows and chandelier in photo 1 look photoshopped..?
Gorgeous! I would LOVE to live in this small space.
beautiful! love the tall, raw ceilings with exposed HVAC. Really well thought out design :D
This is easily one of my absolute favourite AT House Calls.
PLEASE share where your bedding is from. Your duvet cover and pillows are killer.
I like the serenity -- I think something to do with the colors picked and the natural materials.
also-- source on the pillows in the eating area?
This is the first home with an industrial/modern look that I like. It's also the first that I love. The touches of wood and slate grey make the place look so warm and cozy.
What is the blue on the walls? Exactly the soothing, rich color I've been looking for.
Apicciri I'm with you, the whole thing looks weirdly photoshopped. Beautiful, but fake...
It's the Hipstamatic thing with the photos. Some kind of filter.
I agree with CoralBC. Photo two looks like a Hooper painting. Regardless, I wish I had their sense of style.
Such an excellent use of space! I checked out this place during my recent real estate quest, and was amazed by the attention to detail and serene feel. (looks like it's still for sale, if anyone is interested?)
Yes, it does feel a little too perfect and not quite realistic; however, I really love the floating banquette in the dining area and the floating media center/credenza. There is a nice sense of flow in the living room and the kitchen has nice, timeless materials used.
just gorgeous blending of the styles...please make a full tour
So instead of taking in the ingenuity of design, craftsmanship, beauty, artistic sense of style, and photographic acumen some are looking for flaws in the delivery? Sounds like a personal problem. Great space. Great.
WOW. So beautiful. Everything seems really intentional, and self-restrained without looking austere.
love this place so much!!! Please share the paint color!
I rarely love every room in a house, but every part this is lovely! The color palette is to die for, and I love the use of the space and light. Love it.
Hmmm...When I looked at the pictures...I thought of photoshop too..but I thought it was just me hating cause I wished it was mine..LOL!
Excellent use of space. It looks WAY bigger than 742 sqft! I love the design and relaxing colors as well. Great job!
It's a beautiful home, I'm sure, but the pictures have been run through so many filters and effects that they don't feel honest to me. HDR? It's the worst thing that ever happened to photography.
After lawrie's comment, I had to look this up on real estate sites. The photos look beautiful but I was surprised to see that the bedroom was only separated from the living area by a semi-transparent screen that appears to be an addition by the owners. This loft is essentially a studio. The asking price is $274,900 which seems high to me. Do downtown lofts in Portland really command this price?
wow. It's an amazing space. LOVE it. seriously.
Ah. love it. It looks so serene. I would love to know that wall color!
Nice place, but way overboard on the Photoshop filters! HDR should be used sparingly.
Oh, and if you're going to use Photoshop, you could also use the perspective control for photos like the third one. It kind of makes me dizzy the way it is.
To your question, cyberval, yes, downtown Portland lofts in the Pearl do command that high of price. Also most lofts do not have a wall separating the bedroom area from the rest of the unit - that is a true loft, not a studio.
Good Lord this is gorgeous! I want to go to there.
@cyberval: it's a little high for the area, but it was also the nicest remodel I saw. There were a couple other units in the same building in the 735 sq ft range, with asking prices of $225k and $235k. Us commenters would probably rather save $50k and remodel a place to our tastes, but I'm sure a lot of people would prefer a place that required no upgrades at all.
Beautiful but my first reaction was it looks staged, where's your stuff? But after reading your comments, it makes sense. Photos were probably shot for marketing the place for sale. I love the built in desk and the floating media cabinet!
When I see the term make over I want so badly to see the before.
It's a lovely space (even with hipstermatic filter photos.)
Yup, it really looks Photoshopped... but consider that a compliment.
Beautiful home
Amazing! I was going to buy in the Pearl District because of places like this. Great job!
(:-)
It looks like instead of windows they have a green screen up... the trees look out of place. If it is real, it's nice. Although it looks like the photos were taken *immediately* after the remodel... it needs a little more personality and some evidence that people actually live there, then it would be gorgeous.
Also, I love the colour.... anyone know what it is?
Lovely! Great use of space! The huge windows really help, though -- a small place I could happily call home! (Well, except it's on the OTHER coast!)
That's just plain old lousy processing. If you can tell that its HDR, its bad HDR. Its distracting to the point that you don't even focus on the house. The whites are gray, the colors flat and washed out, and there are unnatural shadows and glow. Worry about the inside of the house instead of exposing what is on the outside.
What is HDR? And why is it making me seasick? Seriously, though, aside from the wonky imaging, the place is stunning; I live in Portland and this place makes me want to move here. ;p
I LOVE this space. Very creative mix of the traditional with the modern. I will definitely be stealing a few ideas from this post! Absolutely beautiful. Great use of storage too... can't say enough good things!
I think that this is beautiful. There are a ton of great examples of good design from this loft (use and consistency of color, use of space, use of lighting, lack of window treatments) that could be readily applied to other spaces. And the pictures may be austere and touched up, but considering that they are real estate photos, I didn't find it strange at all.
I think the use of the blue on a wall or two throughout the apartment is interesting. It looks like you thought out and added some good storage. Does the ladder in the first picture make those top cabinets (placed below the top of the ladder) accessible, or is there something else?
The duvet is Dwell Studios- currently available. The banquette pillows are from a local store- Bravado Home www.bravadohome.com and the paint color is Benjamin Moore Kendall Charcoal. Thanks for all of the kind comments. The photos were shot by a professional company for the sale of the unit. I am not personally familiar with photoshop filters or HDR but I appreciate the comments. Thanks!
LOVE your place. Now this is what I'd like to see more of on this site!
Really nice. I love the wall color. Also, it is a good blend of modern/traditional (something my husband and I are working on, too...). Well done and I hope it sells. :)
It is beautiful but I agree with the earlier comments that it does not look realistic. I almost feel like this is a 3D rendering of the project. Especially in the first picture the way the pillows in front of the glass are not being reflected on the glass even though they are directly in front of it. The shadows seem so unrealistic.
really,really a beautiful home!!
its just seem natural, simple and honest
I am a HUGE fan of the Pearl and have looked at many condo/loft spaces there. This a beautiful example of the concept done right! Bravo!!
Just gorgeous!
Can anyone tell me where the beautiful table was purchases or what kind/color wood that is?
Thank you
