When the owners of this 1930s cottage set about remodeling it, they created what looks like a pretty summer home. Don't be fooled by the airy, laid-back vibe, however — it's actually their full time home and office.
The owners creatively opened up spaces, knocking down the wall between the kitchen and the living room and resizing a hallway to fit a home office. The openness is complimented by the bright accents and the combination of high end and thrift store finds. It's an enviable combination, both functional and relaxing.

Beautiful lighting.
I really enjoyed the blue front door, it's inviting and that truck is so masculine.
The gap between the curtain rods and the blinds/roman shades in the first photo really bothers me. It would look much better if the rods were aligned with the top of the shade. I understand the while "high and wide" craze, but the bits of wall that shows through ruins the effect.
The curtains and roman shades are perfect. Everything looks fresh and inviting.
I agree, JamieO2.... I can't get on board with the high and wide because of that effect.
I am also a rebel and don't like floor length curtains because when the sun is shining behind them don't look right, with half washed out and half not. I like my curtains to 1) close and 2) cover just the window only.
I realize I'll never win any design awards with those preferences, though, as they are anathema to what everyone else seems to like these days.
Yeah, kind of alot of wall..
hit send to fast....alot of wall...but home!
I think this place rocks and I love all the patterns used in the design. Brings a really cheerful element to the place.
As far as the curtains are concerned, I'm a HIGH and W I D E believer. I just don't think curtains look quite...right any other way. When I see short curtains it appears that the resident couldn't find proper length curtains. They seem so "I'm renting and don't want to invest here."
I think the living room looks fine in this home but I probably would have gone so far as to hang even the natural shades higher so they met the curtain rod.
Anyway... GREAT house!
OH! What is the paint color of the 3rd room/slide on the linked tour on BHG? Getting ready to paint a bungalow and that color would be perfect for the living room! (thanks for anything close too.... usually use Sherwin Williams.)
needs editing, imho. a lot going on in terms of mismatched patterns and textures.
The mismatched patterns and textures are what make t work for me. Makes it feel casual.
I love that entire home! The shade/curtain combo is something I might try in my living room.
I love this place. It feels like it has a lot of heart. I'd immediately feel comfy here. As for the curtains/blinds, this is something I'm going to try - it solves a current decor problem.
love it. gorgeous! the kitchen chairs with that fabric are especially choice. don't know how I came to use that word, but it fits!
Who makes that side table next to the chair in the first picture?
