This video appeared on my Twitter feed the other day, and it made me think of some of the debates that take place here on Apartment Therapy. It's an old episode from a British sketch comedy show called Mitchell and Webb — totally over-the-top, but there's also a whiff of truth in there as well. See if you agree.

...btw, my fixer house used to have a bathroom with brown carpet, a poo- brown toilet and a tan bath. I lived with it for years. I am not scarred from the experience.
Haha great! The funny thing is, when my wife and I saw the ugly salmon tile in our kitchen, we shrugged and moved on. We ended up painting it (though admittedly I would rather go back and remove the tile backsplash altogether.
Our bathroom has Denny's Coffee cup colored tiles (complete with the speckles) and a salmon colored toilet and bathtub. It's ugly (the whole bathroom is ugly) but we can wash and do our business in there so we are living with it for now.
Being dated probably helped us get a lower price on the house. The previous owners live in the neighborhood and started talking to my electrician and they couldn't understand why we were changing so many things about the house.

I'm about to move in to a place built in the 70's with a "harvest gold" stove and refrigerator... and if it wasn't an electric stove I would actually be excited about it!

I live in a 1960 rental and it has the original light blue tub and bathroom sink, and original luminous ceiling too.
I wished the toilet was original, but nope and I wished it still had the original slide in stove and hood and fridge, but nope on that.
Sadly, the stove is a basic white 24" apartment stove and standard white modern hood, both put in, in I guess the mid 90's, the fridge is a white Kelvinator from about 1989.
Also pretty much every light fixture outside of the bathroom, kitchen sink light (fluorescent units), and the light on my balcony have been replaced with hideous cheap crap.
But hey, it still has its original kitchen cabinets however, sadly all painted white.
Ah well.
I know some units had yellow bath fixtures, and one unit I got to see into the bath and it still retained its original toilet, and matching yellow tile.
I suspect my bath tile had been replaced at some point, though not the bathtub faucets though, which are original.
I don't mind most colors, but avacado green, not so much.
