Named Hotel of the Year for 2010 by Tatler and Best Resort for 2010 by the Travel and Leisure Design Awards, the newest incarnation of the La Mamounia hotel in Marrakech is one gorgeous getaway. The makeover project (completed last year) was designed by Jacques Garcia. Originally built in the 20s by a French architect, Garcia's plan for the hotel was a return to the rich craftsmanship of classic Moroccan style.
While some of the Art Deco details remain, Garcia reimagined the hotel, adding in the craftwork Morocco is known for: chiseled plasters, painted wood and mosaics. The combination of the two strong styles creates a heady, romantic vision of 30s travel, a perfect setting for a design lovers escape.

Those Indigo plaster walls - Heaven!
I was drawn to that blue. This place looks beautiful.
I am assuming the staying in one of the RIADS would be out of my price range.
I love Morocco even the humble hotel I stayed in was a piece of art.
What a romantic place!!!
So stunningly beautiful.
Aaaahhhh!!! One of my favorite vacations ever was spent there! I'm glad to see the renovations did not erase some of my favorite spots. Thanks! (I still have some of the guest soaps...heavenly smell!)
Absolutely stunning! ...can't wait to book my next trip there!
Not my style, at all... but, you go all out and DO IT. And It's successful. And it's your very cool space.

Want to live here so bad. Covered in mehndi.
Absolutely stunning and delicious.
b77 - You'll be surprised at how affordable some of the Riads can be, we stayed at one that was in the old towm, walking distance from the souks, and it was charming and quaint.
