There is something so satisfying about taking a generic piece of furniture or an accessory and making it completely your own. Earlier we featured an easy way to update ordinary dishes. Now here's a great way to update a boring white pendant lamp using a little more than some paint and creativity.
Nichole of Sparrow's Nest needed two things for her kitchen: lighting and color. Inspired by an expensive pendant lamp she had seen, she went to her local Target, spent $20 on a drum shade and painted her own version. What a great way to add an unexpected pop of color to any room!
What is your favorite revamp of an average, off the shelf product in your home?

They sell colored lamp shades, yanno?
nestchick: you can buy colored lamp shades but not with hot pink interiors. Chill out on the snark please.
As someone who is thinking about replacing two beige lamp shades, I have to ask...What KIND of paint can you use on a lampshade for the best results?
I've thought about doing this, but don't know what paint to use.
It's always fun to add your own touch to something, whether you can buy it that way, or not.
Cute lamp, cuter shiny gray cabinets. Want!
Love it! I second on those fabulous cabinets!
I've read somewhere (in a previous post, maybe?) that you can use watered-down acrylic paints to do this.
I too love the cabinets! And the backsplash!!!
very nice cabinets, and the rest of the kitchen looks great too. if you click through the link, there are more pics.
and the lamp is super fun:)
yes you can buy them, but its so much fun to re-purpose something you already have... :)
