In addition to the pieces purchased by our hosts, the entire apartment was set up as a bit of a gallery, with work from the two artists hung throughout the space. It was definitely fun to walk through the different rooms of the apartment and see a range of work in all different sizes in a real home atmosphere. The artists were on hand for introductions and questions and the mingling was in full swing the whole time we were there, as new people arrived, grabbed a glass of wine and some hors d' oeuvres from the kitchen and took the art "tour".
This could be done a larger or smaller scale as suits your own space but it is an idea worth giving a go - it made for a fun, out of the ordinary evening to attend an at-home art gallery "opening".

Shaw's Original Fir...
That sounds like so much fun! :-)
This does sound like fun. I should celebrate my art purchases this way!
How about an art party where everybody DOES art? some wine and some paint go a long way.
I love it! What a good idea.
I've been meaning to throw a similar party exhibiting my repurposed cartography and lithography paper cuts for (instead of by) my friends at a favorite coffee shop of mine. this particular shop always exhibits great local art & i think i've seen little parties take place for an opening. that would be a ton of fun...

soooo...... pretty much the same idea as the one suggesting hosting an art exhibition/party in an empty home, posted not much more than a week ago?
Having your own painting party is a great idea. I have done loads of them, I show up at the party with all my art gear, the guests all take turns in painting on a prepeared canvas - some guests more than others - and then I take the canvas back to my studio and fix things up a little, give it a coat of varnish and then return the art piece to the host. Everyone has a great time and the host ends up with an interesting and meaningful abstract work of art created by their friends, You can check some examples out here: www.victoriaheryet.com
Wow, there are a lot of weird quotation marks in this post.
Thanks Burleygirl!
