Lately we've been daydreaming about escaping the city... A few years ago, to celebrate a special occasion, we took a trip to Iceland. It was one of the most spectacular places we've ever visited, and we've been scheming to get back ever since. One spot that we missed on our first visit — but is on the top of the list for a return trip — is the Hotel Budir on Iceland's Snæfellsnes peninsula. Looking through the photographs of the site, we discovered so many design elements that we loved.
As if the photos aren't enough to convince us that we need to return, Iceland made The New York Times list of the 44 places to go to in 2009. One of the aspects of Hotel Budir's decoration that we love is how simply everything is done. The focus is on the view not on overly elaborate furnishings.
• 4 Love that single copper candlestick on the center of the table.
• 6 We are absolute suckers for a gallery wall. This one is particularly awesome because of the variety of objects on the wall. There are newspaper clippings, a lace color, prints and photographs...

Wow, I love that place!!!
I stayed there two years ago and it was really worth the money.
I totally recommend the hotel and its great restaurant.
The best place we stayed in Iceland! More importantly the best food we ate in Iceland. This place is a true gem.
What a beautiful and peaceful hotel.
I'm a sucker for this type of travel day dream (which happens to be the focus of my new blog!). The setting of this hotel...gorgeous.
I'm going to Reykjavik in two weeks. I'm definitely driving here now. Any other can't miss spots or tips? Appreciate it!
I wonder what effect Iceland's financial collapse has had on the shopping and dining. I imagine you could find a good deal, but is it terribly dreary now?
Omg.....that is just too beautiful! To me, that would be the ultimate trip and accomodation. The scenery is just breathtaking and the lone rustic hotel on the lush green with surrounding mountains would be my dream! The interior is gorgeous, also!
