Name: Annick (2.5) and newborn
Location: Philadelphia, PA
We live in a loft that had one large bedroom so we had to use the bedroom for our daughter and new baby that will be here any day and make it a shared space for both of them.
So my husband and father-in-law built a loft with a climbing wall with stairs along the side for my 2-year old. To get to the top of her loft she can go up the stairs or climb the wall. The whole structure is painted white with some wood left natural to give it a modern look. She sleeps underneath and has a play area on top of the loft for now and maybe later will sleep up top. She has a reading nook as well underneath the loft.
The baby's crib is on the other side of the room with changing table on one side and Annick's "closet" on the other side. There is no closet in the room so we had to be creative with storage. One wall is a chalkboard wall so Annick can draw all over it. Everything in the room was either built by my father-in-law (Annick's big girl bed, changing table, dresser) or made by myself or husband. I made art storage for her supplies, a bird mobile that goes over the bed, and many other decor elements. The theme was to keep everything white and have pops of color throughout the room. And since I have no idea the sex of the new baby I stuck with birds because there is so much out there with birds for decoration, and they can be so colorful.
The room is large with high ceilings, a brick wall, and some interesting architectural elements left behind because the building we live in is an old warehouse. You'll find old wood beams and a metal door that we sealed and use for magnets to play with. The floor is cement so easy to clean up art messes but we did have to have some certain areas covered by foam play mats or area rugs. I decorated and designed the whole room along with my husband. It is a kid's play ground because my daughter can climb, play, do arts and crafts, sleep and read all in one room.

That changing table is beautiful. And thanks, AT, for showing a kid's room that looks like a kid lives there! It's cheerful, real, and therefore perfect.
AWESOME. Both my children ages 5.5 and 25 months would be in love with this space. So fun! I might have down some more carpeting/soft space for the baby as he/she becomes mobile to protect from concrete. Where does Mom and Dad sleep in this one bedroom home? Was safety a concern when not hanging the curtains to the floor?
The curtains were made by my mom and I got the fabric from IKEA. I didn't bring them to the floor because of dust and I didn't want anyone playing with them. Once the baby is old enough to pull itself up I will move the crib so he can't play with the curtain. So, I guess safety did come into play. Also, there is a really nice wood beam ledge so it would have looked odd if the curtains went over it.

As for where we (parents) sleep, our apartment is set up in a way that the bathroom connects our space and the kids' bedroom. We don't have a bedroom but it is set far back that it is pretty dark and private. We are basically on the other side of the apartment separated by the bathroom.
Wow. Can I come over and bring my 2.5 year old to play? Great use of space. Looks quite cozy.
