An Industrial & Industrious Home Office

DeskTops – The Best of Readers’ Desks & Workspaces

It's an American midcentury classic: the Tanker desk. Made with thick gauge steel, the hefty desks evoke an era orchestrated by the mechanical arms of typewriters, living on as highly desirable and collectible functional furnishings even today. Thanks to their sturdy construction, many survive and have been appropriated as computer desks, as seen here in our latest reader workspace spotlight...

The makeover began last summer with the purchase of the mighty Tanker desk. With this piece, I began to really get into mid-century industrial furniture. With the addition of an awesome desk lamp (which we searched high and low for), and a great desk chair with matching side chair, the office is coming together well.

After acquiring the desk, we purchased the two Goodform chairs to accompany it. Every upgrade to the office tends to revolve around the desk.

The office is one of our favorite rooms in our house, as it's a relaxing place for us to work (I work as a technical writer and editor), craft, and play. It's also a hub of learning for our son, who has no qualms with using the computer when he's not creating modern works of art at his craft table.

Thanks for sharing, localARC!
