We've blogged before about our love for Method products, but do you know how the company started? It was founded by two newly graduated college grads —one a chemical engineer, and the other an ad guy— with one simple idea: create green products that are stylish and fragrant...Eric Ryan and Adam Lowry founded Method, the world's largest eco-friendly cleaning brand, after learning about how toxic cleaning products could be. In February of 2001, they mixed their first four cleaning sprays and somehow convinced managers at 20 independent grocers to try them. Shortly after, they went to friends and family for seed money, coming up with $90,000 in total.
They faced an uphill battle: the economic recession, being a small player in a large marketplace, hoping to bait the likes of Target to carry their products, and even leaky packaging snafus.
Reader's Digest has interviewed the duo about the beginnings of their company, the full text of which can be read here: Messy Guys Make Millions Selling Green Cleaning Products.
