This apartment bedroom in Göteborg, Sweden might be small but it's just brimming with inspiration. If you have a compact bedroom and you're looking for solutions, take heed:
Storage: Kitchen-style upper cabinets are installed high on the wall above the head of the bed. Their white finish and plain design blend in with the wall, creating a niche for the bed.
Color: An accented wall reinforces the idea of the bed niche.
Proportion: The room is narrow. Rather than split the difference for symmetry's sake, the bed is pushed to one side to provide one usable space alongside the bed.
Efficiency: Extra clutter is eliminated. One example: lighting at the bed is built into the cabinets above. A bedside lamp would just be one more thing taking up space where every inch counts.

I dont live in earthquake country but still will not sleep with cabinets over my head. Perhaps there is enuf room to have the bed in front of the cabinets, not below.
It looks pretty, but there's no cabinet secure enough on the wall to rid me of the feeling that my head is about to be smashed.
I love Göteborg! One of my favorite cities in Europe. And the room looks very koselig (though that's a Norwegian word...)
That is so cozy and cute, I love that the bed's tucked into a little nook. I could not sleep with cupboards above my head, though.
If your kitchen cabinets stay up so do these. And I can assure you there are no earthquakes in Sweden. Loved the idea of storage above.
I can't help wondering what the occupant does with all the stuff on the windowsill when the windows need to be covered for privacy or warmth. (I'm assuming that's a shade inset at the top of the window.) If the walls are drywall over studs or a similar construction, it would be nice to build in a series of niches along the blank wall, perhaps with lights installed in one or more. One at bedside table level would provide a great place for a book and clock. The others could either match it in size and level (forming a straight line), or form a composition of spaces.
What really makes this bedroom work is its beautiful sunny window.
This bedroom is fantastic. I love small bedrooms - so cozy.
Any suggestions on a source for a similar white quilt?
I really like that wallpaper against the white walls etc, but I think I'd sleep more soundly with those cupboards behind the bed, rather than over it. Yes, I know it's irrational, (although, comforting to know that I'm not alone!) especially in light of krisse's kitchen cupboard logic but then, even though I know my kitchen cupboards are unlikely to launch themselves off the walls, you wouldn't catch me opting to sleep under them either! :)
The issue with earthquakes is probably not so much that the cupboards themselves would come crashing down, but that the stuff inside them would.
In earthquake country they recommend special latches for kitchen cupboards to keep the contents from tumbling out.
Can't sleep with anything above my head.
There was a 4,7 earthquake in southern Sweden in December of 08, never say never.
I would gladly give up floorspace for a large window like this!
I never have and don't currently live in an earthquake-prone area, but those cupboards make me shudder. The room appears to be long enough to pull the bed out a yard or two and put floor-to-ceiling cupboards behind it. Presto: triple storage space and much more peaceful sleep!
Lovely room....my daughter would like to know about the wallpaper...where we can find it. She would like to do one of her walls with it...Thanks!
Beautiful window and wallpaper. The bed would look better if it were centered.
Great that the room has so much natural light, but I do agree, I could not sleep comfortably with cabinets above my head.
Gorgeous. But yes obviously staged as you couldn't pull the blind down at all with all that stuff on the sill. Still, it's so light and happy.
my bedroom is almost exactly the same layout as this, radiator and window the same locations, but maybe a little wider. I have my bed centered which makes better sense visually and I use Ikea Ribba ledges instead of nightstands with a floor lamp for lighting. After having shelves come within seconds of actually falling on my head over my bed once, cabinets are a no, no for me. It's nice to see others working with this kind of space :) Love the wall paper!
