We've resolved to construct a simple playhouse for the kids this spring. Without a tree or any real outdoor space in the city, the playhouse will be an indoor one.
That means it can't be too big or obtrusive. But the kids are asking for something more durable than the temporary cardboard "houses" we've constructed from boxes. What might be a solution for us is this playhouse we spotted over at Riemuja. It definitely fits the bill for sturdiness. And we like the fact that the framed out playhouse doesn't have walls so, even if built larger, doesn't look like something heavy in the middle of the room. Who needs walls when you've got imagination? If privacy or a fort is called for during a play session, a blanket or sheet thrown over the top will work. Simple and inspiring design that you can DIY.

I like it.
I thought this was already posted on here?! anyways, the only thing I can think of is that unless it has blankets on it my kids would NOT care at all. open-ended play aside, the part of the appeal is a hideout - and without cover it is just not cool.
It would be fun to sew different covers for this. You could make one like a frilly cottage, another a log cabin, etc.
Love this A WHOLE WHOPPING LOT!
LOVE this. I agree that blankets could be used, or as vanessanyc suggested, sew different covers. My husband is definitely going to have to build this :)
Ohhh I should mention that Pottery Barn sells a playhouse with a similar concept, open wooden frame with a fabric slipcover. However, you could DIY it MUCH cheaper and make your own covers.
