Inspiration for my palette:
We live in a groovy 70's modern rental with neutral walls and lots of natural wood. So although we couldn't paint, my colorful vintage pieces suit it perfectly. The red velvet couch and the framed modern poster above it were the inspiration for the rest of the room. I hand dyed the curtains to bring in more blue and the rug blends all of the colors together.
Colors used in my room:
Ruby red, cobalt blues, amber and touches of just about every other color in the rainbow. I can't help myself: for me the more color, the better.
Tips for using color successfully:
I try to keep to a palette of three main colors for the large elements like furnishings, rugs and curtains. I prefer neutral walls so I can easily change the room as often as I please. To keep things grounded I use lots of organic elements like wood, plants and brass.
