I love the pieces in isolation, but clumped together it feels a bit more like a rummage sale than a home. The feature pieces don't really get to speak for themselves because they're too busy competing for attention. That poor little gumball machine gets lost in the mix, whereas it could (and should) be a great focal point for an entire room.

He actually has an original Hitchcock prop? I'm in awe of the crow, gumball machine and mannequin.

Then again, I am big into kitsch. I have a mannequin in my bathroom wearing a daring bit of lingerie, the better to enhance the hundred or so retro pulp fiction book covers I've made into make-shift wall paper.

I love the color and individuality. The place has real personality. I find the empty birdcages slightly disturbing - but that is probably the result of some personal psychological issue I have yet to address.

mskk: thanks! pictures in a few months -- i'm about to move, so the pulp fiction bathroom theme is now mostly in boxes.

(but, i plan to redo the theme in the new place, in some way, so i'll post in a few months. i also will need to post a "good question" about dealing with floor to ceiling ugly bathroom tiles rather than walls in the new place.)

Bravo for leaving the wabi-sabi finishes on all the old stuff alone, rather than painting it to look like candy-coloured plastic.

It varies with the Auction line up. The more auctions in a given month the more often I'm there. I work there part time and choose the days I come in a month or two in advance.
