Designed in 2008, the Anglepoise Fifty is based on the original Anglepoise lamp designed in 1932 by George Carwardine. This update takes the lamp which is known for its flexibility and fixes it in place...

...by extending the polycarbonate material that the lamp is made from into the negative space surrounding the familiar shape of the original lamp. The round-cornered piece that surrounds the lamp is cut into a shape that focuses the viewers attention on the product's purpose - it mimics the look of illumination even when off. The backside of the lamp is exposed, which projects light through the polycarbonate, throwing the color of the lamp forward onto the surface it is resting on.

Available from the Design Museum Shop for £39.50, it comes in orange, red or clear.
