I've been enjoying animal prints in the grown-up world lately, and it got me thinking: would these patterns work well in a kid's room or nursery? Are they too grown up for certain pieces? I gathered a few ideas here and now I'm curious what you think.
Would you use an animal print for your child's decor? Should it be used minimally as an accent, or could you use it as a main motif? Is it gender neutral, or more suitable for a girl? What pieces would you put an animal pattern on, and which ones are a definite no-no?
Let us know what you think in the comments!

Kids like animals better than most grown-ups! Of course animal prints are fine for them too. I don't really understand how animal prints wouldn't be "suitable" -- are our children only allowed to have cute, cuddly cartoon versions of everything? Then again, I have zero problems with skulls and crossbones for babies' gear or decor either...
Sure, why not?
I wanted to get our daughter a zebra head made from paper from anthropologie... so she's getting zebra print if she wants it or not...
Yes. Why wouldn't it be?
To me animal prints tend to look childish. So yes, they are appropriate.
I've seen jungle theme rooms so I would think animal print would fit right in.
Childish..naw..my livingroom has accents of cheetah prints. It's all about what you love living with.
what duane hill said. but no to the rug. I really like the giraffe print outlet cover
Of course it's "appropriate".
Why not? I love that rug - it's perfect for a kid's room!
Yeah, I'm a little confused as to what would make these inappropriate. Animal prints definitely tend to look childish to me, as other people have said, so this seems like the one truly perfect place for them. Also, kids come in two stages: larval, where all of their design choices are really your choices because they haven't developed their own tastes; and grubs, where they should be allowed to pick what they like, anyway. If you want an animal print nursery because you like it, do it, since I really can't conceive of a way in which this might harm your child. If your kid likes it and wants a pink zebra stripe bedset (like the one I had as a kid, and totally loved), then you will be an awesome parent for letting them design their environment to suit their own tastes. I was crazy about animals, and animal prints were just a part of it that I could plaster everywhere.
I still love the animals, but their beautiful adaptations now look tacky to me in most situations besides on their hides. Probably a lot of it is how much I associate it with being 4-14, that I just think that they pretty firmly belong in childhood or on animals and not many other places. That giraffe rug is pretty good, though.
I had a bench upholstered in a high quality neutral animal print for me, and in the future would look great in a nursery. I'd just decorate the rest of the room a little differently when the time comes. So yes I'm all for it :)
I think animal prints are great for kids, and suitable for all ages... but I might just be saying that because I have a faux fur cheetah blanket and a zebra-print wool rug. >_>
Of course. They are great.
I love animal prints for children & adults, I just feel displaying the silhouette of a dead animal on the floor (even if it´s a fake one) may not be the best way to teach children to love and respect animals...
very odd question.
I love animal prints as well. To me they look very childish and so are apt for a kid’s room or nursery.
