Anne E. Collins, managing editor of PointClickHome, has recently launched a new personal blog called Seeing Design, where she's going to be posting a series of room makeovers adding up to a full tour of her home. The series started off beautifully today with her bedroom, a simple, un-fussy space with lots of DIY inspiration.

Collins chose simple furnishings so as not to draw attention away from the room's lovely original architectural details. The Ferm Living wallpaper she hung, paired with a lovely ocean blue paint, is both sophisticated and calming.

The fireplace, as it turned out, was hidden behind a marble panel that had been installed to block the chimney. Collins and her husband undertook to excavate it and painted the mantel white to lighten up the room. You can read the whole fireplace saga here.

The desk and office area nestles into a corner without seeming cramped or out of place. And gauzy white curtains were just the right choice to balance the rich blue and wood accents of the rest of the room.

White Enamel Flatwa...
What a stunning bedroom. I like traditional styled bedrooms: I find them more restful.
I love the linens. Where are they from?
Gorgeous! Love the colors and the feel of this room. Can you tell me where the rug is from?
the mirror, the bed set - any knowledge on where these things came from?!?
(are those shelves meant to be crooked?)
From the exposed screws, I would bet the bed is from Ikea.
You are correct. That bed is an Ikea hack. It had this scary floral heart design so we built it inside-out. If you are curious, here's how we did it: http://seeingdesign.com/projects/ikea-hacking-our-bed
A few sources for you: The linens are from a company called Bella Lux; the mirror is from Zodax; the rug is from Ikea (they have the best deals on sisal carpets).
Thank you all for the kind words! Glad you enjoyed my bedroom design and hope you stay tuned for the rest of the room makeovers on SeeingDesign.com
Lovely bedroom. Those linen are beautiful and the wallcovering really makes the room special.
The wallpaper is great!
So pretty! Love the wallpaper, of course! Everything is so serene and calming. I'm jealous of your fireplace too :)
Mike here (the "husband / fiancé" you will occasionally see me on random posts throughout SeeingDesign.com hanging wallpaper and shelves and excavating fireplaces), nice to meet you all.
Regarding the shelves, they are perfectly level, but the issue comes in that our house has been settling for 112 years, so the desk (aka the floor) is actually what is not level.
Esmerelda, we totally want to cover those screws up, we have been debating back and forth between, white paint and white round stickers.
