"Just one more project before it's finished"… I had to wait a bit to see the final reveal of Annie and Pierson's home. Annie had been working day and night to finish things up, touching up paint, installing wallpaper, and going over every detail in the house. The design of your own home can be very personal, and I think everyone can relate to the feeling of never being quite finished.

Wallpaper, how I love thee! Annie and I both share a love for adding patterns to a home with wallpaper. It is front and center in the entryway, hallway, nursery, and bathroom. My favorite room with wallpaper is definitely the bathroom. The yellow accents in the paper with coordinating yellow storage boxes — swoon!

Apartment Therapy Survey:
Our Style: A mix of comfortable, functional and familial pieces with a modern, minimal and sophisticated feel.
Inspiration: My inspiration comes in waves. Mostly out of necessity. For instance, when we needed a bookcase/storage system for the living room, I set to task cruising websites and scouring magazines. Pre-Pinterest (hallelujah!), I'd rip pages from design magazines and print images from websites and tuck them in a massive three-ring binder.
Favorite Element: My Saarinen Womb Chair. I had no rest until I got it! And when I did, I didn't let anyone sit on it for years and years. Now our 2.5 year-old bounces around on it like a jungle gym. My, how times have changed!
Biggest Challenge: The depth and breadth of choice! Living in Los Angeles and having access to so many well-curated shops/studios is, at times, overwhelming, but what a blessing!
What Friends Say: That it's welcoming and well-organized. Many wonder where we keep "all of our stuff" and if I can help them "hide" theirs.
Biggest Embarrassment: Ugh! The fireplace. We LOVE having a wood-burning fireplace, but I haven't a clue how to improve upon it. I recently put a Band-Aid on it by painting the hearth brick and hanging a sunburst mirror above it. All suggestions are welcome…
Proudest DIY: The vintage white slipper chairs. Pierson brought these to the relationship, but not as you see them today. They were a god-awful iridescent green/teal/yellow floral pattern (circa late 50's Granny's parlor). I refinished the bases in our backyard and splurged and reupholstered them with Knoll fabric. Score!
Biggest Indulgence: The coy wallpaper in the bathroom! Who knew so little wallpaper could be so costly! (Totally worth it!)
Best Advice: Advice received — to be patient and not rush into decisions just because you want to cross a task off the list. Smart design decisions take time.
Dream Sources: Knoll and Herman Miller

White Enamel Flatwa...
i love this house tour! does anyone know where the height decal in the little boy's room is from?
Lovely home. I especially like the wallpaper in the bathroom and the child's room.
The koi wallpaper is wonderfully dramatic but not overwhelming. Very cheerful (I'm usually a firm "no wallpaper" person.) An inviting place.
Very nice. When I saw the list of familiar sources I was a little bit worried, sometimes people's spaces look like they are simply trying to reproduce the catalog. The wallpaper and use of color and art makes it homey and personal.
Didn't get a good look at the biggest embarassment - but I think having that upholstered bench right in front of it makes it seem like you're trying to hide the fireplace and therefore, draws my attention to it. I would take that bench out of the room as it seems to add clutter. Drywall over the existing surround if you hate it and put a modern Morso woodstove on the hearth. Or something like that.
Lovely space! Can you please give the source for the bedding in master bedroom? Thank you.
@sophia17 - Simple Shapes' etsy store has them: http://www.etsy.com/listing/62329963/growth-chart-numbers-childrens-vinyl
The Steeler's schedule made me excited to find a fellow Pittsburgh-er, but, alas, it seems like your lovely home is much further away.
The fish wallpaper did it for me!
beautiful! i love the dark wall colors. would love to know paint brand and colors for the various rooms.
@Slangevar - Thanks!
Ah, looks so comfortable. I also like the colors a great deal -- they're perfect for our Pacific Northwest aesthetic! The place feels warm and comfortable, not at all stuffy.
(One little comment--be careful of those strong minimagnets if your child or a visiting child is inclined to put any in his mouth and swallow them. Apparently super dangerous. :( )
You had me at the first picture of the yellow door with the gray. I want to live here...that is all! (:
Wow, wow, and wow. 1200sqft of pure bliss. The shot of front door was enough to draw me inside. Congratulations for doing such a spectacular job. I will appreciate more information about the paint colors (both exterior and interior), and the exterior door color and name of the hardware.
On that note, does anybody watch the show Million Dollar Decorators (MDD)??? I am so embarrassed to admit that I do, just so I can laugh on all these rich people. In yesterday's show, I could not believe when one of the clients said that she thinks that a million dollar budget is a bit too much to straighten curtains and fluff pillows. This same client mentioned that she was thinking more of a budget of a quarter million for such a small job.
Don't get me wrong, I am not the kind of person who dislikes rich people or their designers because they can afford it, but I need to see something that will tell me there is some innovative idea playing out. I do find that kind of inspiration in decorators I see in Apartment therapy, but never in MDD. Did anybody see the shocking pink bedroom in the last episode, or the red dining room of the client who owns Jimmy Choo. But, why am I saying all this here. It is because Annie and Pierson's home made me emotional. Yeh, it happens with me.
Great house tour! Love the gray walls and wallpaper. Your son is very cute too.
I really like the yellow door, and the family looks adorable.
I love everything about this home! All of the wallpapers are beautiful. Great color scheme!
@tetegrondona - You know people can plan to and have more, children.... think before you judge.
Hi Terry! Thanks for the compliment! The duvet cover and pillow shams are Dwell Studio, the coverlet is Pine Cone Hill, and the bedskirt is Restoration Hardware.
@ chaos amoeba - While not a fellow Pittsburgh-er, I did grow up outside of Harrisburg. Here we goooo Steelers!
@ a7111 - Thanks! The dark brown accent walls in the dining and living areas is Dunn Edwards Weathered Brown. The master bedroom walls are Restoration Hardware Flax.
@ modern_love - Hope it's happy emotional! Thanks for your positive comments! Exterior paint is Benjamin Moore: yellow is a custom shade, stucco is "Kendall Charcoal", and eaves (not really visible) are "Blue Spruce". The front door hardware is from Baldwin. Interior paint is: dark brown accent walls in dining and living areas is Dunn Edwards "Weathered Brown". Master bedroom walls are Restoration Hardware "Flax". Bathroom walls and trim are Behr "Mountain Haze". The remaining interior walls are Dunn Edwards; all complimentary shades of grey (courtesy of previous owners).
I have just registered for the sole purpose of replying to @tetegrondona 's ridiculous comment.
What on earth are you talking about? This is a design forum right? Do you think this is an appropriate platform to criticize someone's parenting choices?
Shame on you. stay on point.
Beautiful house.
Thanks for sharing.
Excellent choices...in all regards.
Dwell Studio... I have that duvet and LOVE it.

Lovely home. The entry wall is stunning and I like how the dining wall sets a different mood to the bright living room and the airy kitchen. Your fireplace is fine, you didn't need to hide it behind an ottoman (which looks to me like it's just blocking that path). How about putting plants or candle stands instead? Or, more ambitiously, how about custom-building a faux fireplace around it? Also, I find the coffee table/ottoman to be too matchy-matchy with the sofa and chairs, although it iskid friendly.
Annie, the house looks amazing. I'd expect nothing less from you!
@SnowdogMaine - Like your idea of plastering over the existing facade. We have considered doing just that and installing Heath ceramic tiles floor to ceiling with a floating shelf as a mantle. The "upholstered bench" is actually two custom upholstered square floor cushions that we throw about for watching television or or additional seating when guests are over. At the moment, we don't have a more appropriate (remember, we are space challenged in a 1200 sq ft home) place for them. Plus, they pull double duty as added protection for a toddler and an open hearth fireplace.
@edmarch - Thanks for the compliments. We've been tossing around doing a custom-something with the fireplace. Might be removing the stone work that's currently there and replacing it with floor-to-ceiling Heath ceramic tiles with a floating live slab as a mantle. As for the white leather ottoman in the living room; it's great because it's soft and cushy, has a flip-top for storage and is on casters for easily moving it about. We have, in storage, a lovely rectangular glass top table that was the "right" piece for the space. Fear not, once it's no longer such a liability to a toddler, we will reintroduce it to the room!
Nice, comfortable, homey.
Thanks for sharing :)
@ Patrick Stevens - Patrick!!! Great to see a comment from you pop up here! Thanks for the kind response. Hope all is well with you!
luuuuuuuuuv the kitchen!!!
fab place
Raise it!
I think its very comfortable looking and I like they used SOME mcm without going theme with it.Considering the size, its remarkabley functional. The only tiny criticism is the living room is a bit too crowded.Id do some editing, and maybe retrofit the shelves to hold the electronics. That tv stand just eats up the room. The boys room is adorable, and I love that brown chair!
Lovely, comfy home! I just love the gray with the orangey-yellow door. At first I thought it was the same colour as our own door (BM's Citrus Blast but matched in Behr because BM would not give the same colour in exterior paint!). You've been able to do wonders in what most people would consider a small home!
Very very nice update to what have been just a post-war stucco box. One suggestion, some sort of canopy at the front door landing. Surprised that there were no items sourced from stores from the Helms Bakery (seeing that the home is in Culver City)!
Oops. Never mind the last comment. I just saw Room & Board (Helms Bakery) in the sources!
Very cool and interesting home. One of my favorite home tours.
I love this house too. And I was shocked to see the usual suspects in the source list. Anyhow, great job! Can you also source the scalloped pendant light in the entry? Super cool. Thanks for sharing.
Love the gray walls and exterior. Wallpaper is off limits at my house (contractor husband who hates) and I've always been okay with that, until I saw your hallway and little boys room! Like your yellow door - and such a cute family pic. Thanks for sharing!
Love your place, esp. the wallpaper. Very relaxing and homey and your son is adorable.
Love your home. Very personable and stylish! What if the fireplace were surrounded in mercury-glass or aged mirror type tiles? Would tie in with the sunburst mirror above and maybe make the room appear larger as well?
Beautiful place! Inviting! Thanks for sharing.
Love the comfy reading area in the nursery.
Cozy yet modern. Great color choices. I love that you chose a bold color for your driveway wall--I think that'll be my next project. Who did you use for your driveway gate? Thank you and enjoy the holidays.
@wormy - Thanks for the kind words! The entry pendant lamp came from a shop here in LA called Zipper. Sadly, the shop is now closed. I've had the piece for over a decade so I don't have any of the original packaging, etc. that would tell us the manufacturer. Sorry!
@criswil - Many thanks for the compliments! We used Harwell Fencing & Gates (http://lacw.us/fences.html). They were easy to work with, listened to our design input, were neat and tidy and crafted a sturdy, well-constructed final product. Good luck with your project!
What a fun, happy house. I love it.
Marilyn June
Beautiful...comfortable looking! That's what a home is all about! Love it!
Wow the front door is just jaw dropping. I just brought a house and being a first time home buyer was looking at doing a small job first. The statement made by the front door in this house is an inspiration. Thanks for sharing. Wonderful work done through out the house
Loved seeing Eric Rewitzer's (3 Fish Studios) prints on the wall. Good choice. <3
Alright for the Steelers schedule! GO STEELERS!!!!
I love the exterior color scheme; inspirational.I have a similar dark grey color on the the shake shingles of my rental home. I'm about to paint my front door a pale, muted yellow, and the porch a lighter grey, the classic, typical porch paint color.
This is almost my exact style. And I went and looked up many of the etsy shops listed and they were already in my favorites!
Great job taking a "regular" house and making it special. Love the dark walls and wallpaper...plus the front door is awesome.
Check out Precast concrete fireplace surrounds.....you will for sure find a style that suits your esthetic without being a firehazard.....sierra fireplaces (Sierra precast?) or a & m Victorian..architectural precast designs in phx www.apdprecast.com definitely has a few I would love to see in your space! Love the wallpaper !
