I'm sure almost everyone recalls the awesome pipe shelving project made by Morgan of The Brick House. For those with only half of the wall space of Morgan but still looking for the Ace Hotel Palm Springs look, here is a great version that uses reclaimed wood and also has some hidden storage.
This was the first foray into furniture making for Daniel and Valeria of Hindsvik Blog, but they had us fooled. Their wood and pipe shelving transforms their entryway and provides an excellent way to display their amazing West German pottery collection. Job well done, Daniel and Valeria!

Quite snazzy!
I've been pondering making one of these. The only issue would be that I need mine to be a slightly awkward shape, and i'm not sure how it would look. The top right side would need to extend about a foot further than the bottom, and I would really like a bottom or else its too much of a sacrifice in storage for my place.
Loved it when Morgan did it, love it here. This is a great project - I hope I get to try my hand at it someday!
Err, I want? Has anyone tried to make something similar? How hard is it?
This looks great - I'd love to have something like this
It looks like something you'd find in New york!
it's not hard at all. The piping is readily available at any hardware store in various lengths. 6"/8"/12"/24". You can read more about it on our blog. The wood is from a dismantled barn from the 1800's so it has a lot of character.
This would also work with copper water pipe or pvc piping. Just depends on the look and feel you are after.

This looks really well done and classy. I may try to pull off something similar if I have enough left over piping from an upcoming project. Would you advise against adding two additional legs? I'd like to try and minimize the amount of drilling I have to do.

Haha, those are great. I used to have this horrendous blocked drain that I would have loved to yank out from under the sink and staple to the wall. Luckily my local plumbers, Pipe Perfection, came over and stopped my minor emergency but it was fairly close.
Another great DIY plumbing pipe shelf, it is very good and very inspiring as well. Great job!

If you wanted to go another route with this shelf, instead of using plumbing fixtures, you could use structural pipe fittings like Kee Klamps.
