We love playing host to a circle of inspiration among our readers and Lisa wasted no time getting inspired by Julie's terrific Little Tikes playhouse makeover. She saw. She painted. She conquered.
Lisa describes her enthusiasm to take on this project: I was so inspired by the post last Friday that I scoured Craig's List until I found the identical house (for $30). I've spent all week cleaning and painting the house (while still holding down a full-time job!!). I painted the playhouse with Rustoleum "plastic" paint, and accented with balsa wood cut-out flowers that I painted to look like Edelweiss (as a nod to our German heritage).
I have the house tucked away in a corner of my yard, in a neglected Woodland Garden. I'm planning on letting my 2-year old son "discover" it this weekend [update: see photo 4 above!]. He will be so excited!
Thanks Lisa! And thank you Julie!

Shaw's Original Fir...
That's wonderful! You did a great job. I have to try that plastic paint.
that's my girl!!!!
looks great! really, I have to try this with our little house.
Looks amazing!
ok, why haven't i gotten one of these yet?!? this is fabulous!
My favorite part is that you let him discover it on his own. I'll have to remember that.
So cute, but a word of warning to others before you try this...it takes a LOT of paint, which is pretty pricey. I painted my toddler's little slide climber toy, and it took 8 cans of plastic paint. Times that by $4-5 a can...and that was just for a little slide.
I imagine it cost at least double that for the house. So $100ish? I'm curious how many paint cans she actually used.
I used 3-1/2 cans of blue paint, and less than 1 can of red paint. (The shutters, door and chimney were already red, so they just needed a light coat to enhance the color). I paid $3.57/can = $17.85 (plus tax).
Love it lisamfb!
This is so great and makes me think I could actually live with one of these plastic houses in my yard. My only question is, does anyone know about the safety of this paint around children?
I know this is an old post, but I just stumbled upon it a few days ago. I'm in love with your makeover!! I'm hoping to do one of my own with a Little Tikes playhouse that I just purchased off Craigslist. Could you please tell me the colors you used and where you purchased the spray paint? Thank you!
