We showed this ottoman/bed on Apartment Therapy a few years ago, but after seeing it in person the other day we decided it was worth another look. It doesn't hurt that the price is $200 less now than we quoted before. See it transformed into a bed after the jump...
Now starting at $279, the ottoman/bed is both a practical and affordable option for anyone hosting frequent sleepovers or other visiting guests. When we saw it in the store we were particularly impressed by its lightweight frame, which makes moving it much easier than you might think.

According to the Bo Concept website, it looks like the ottoman without the bed function, in basic fabric, is $279. With the bed starts at $499. The price tag for the ottoman with bed feature in the fabric shown in this picture is $979. Maybe not so affordable after all...
Almost a grand for a nondescript ottoman that can fold out into an uncomfortable-looking, rather ugly bed. Seriously, it looks like an operating table.
Pricey, uncomfortable-looking and not very stylish open or closed...h-mmm I'm going to pass.
It looks like a hospital bed without the adjustable part....or better yet, a very uncomfortable roll-away bed from a dinky motel.
wow, check out the price with the bed feature, they can keep it
There was a classic fold-up sleeper cot with wheels and a pretty classy-looking mattress, allegedly Italian-made, on Smartbargains.com for $139.
There's an ottoman sleeper on PBTeen for less that $979, I believe. I think it's around $350.
I've been looking into these things because I'm expecting a crowd at Thanksgiving, and I'd like to get everyone over 50 off the floor.
For the benefit of anyone interested, I double-checked and the Italian folding cot is still available on Smartbargains.com for $139 and PBTeen.com is offering their tufted ottoman cot in pink or white for $299 with reduced shipping.
Has anyone actually slept on this thing?
Finally something afforable. I would like to know exactly how comfortable it is.
h144 some of us want our house guest to leave...:)
New to Apt. Therapy. Just Read this and thought I should chime in since I actually purchased one of these..
Don't all hate on me at once.
But I am totally happy with it.
1. Every single price on here is actually wrong.
The Bed can be purchased without cover and is $360
They have covers that start at like $180 Bucks.
So around $550 NOT $1000 dollars. I can't vouch for the quality of the $150 Dollar Itallian "folding cot". But the bo bed is great construction with a memory foam mattress.. I have had about 5 different houseguests sleep on mine and all of them found it to be far better than an inflatable. My 2 cents.
yeah i agree, it looks really nasty and uncomfortable, probably ok for kids but not an adult, its just way too thin.
Don't knock it before you try it. I spent a whole summer sleeping on it (at my friend's house) while I did an internship away from home. The bed is made from BoConcept's own version of memory foam and is exceedingly comfortable. It also works well as extra seating - folds out to almost 90"! There was no question that I would purchase one when I moved back home - and I did. I have it functioning as my coffee table/ottoman as well. It never fails to awe guests. Best $550 I've ever spent, and I will be purchasing more covers soon.
Apparently the legendary Castro Convertibles has come back from the dead with an ottoman bed: http://castroconvertiblesusa.com/page.asp?content_id=22677
I'm thinking of getting one for my new living room, so that I can have the sofa I love instead of a kludgy sofabed, yet still have a super-comfy place for my Mom to sleep when she comes. The Castro looks well-built, for $500 on Amazon. Carlyle offers an "ottobed" too, starting at twice the price. Does anyone have any experience with any of these?
We have a smallish condo and needed a guest bed. We bought this BoConcept ottoman, and so far, so good! Our guest slept on it for a week and said it was very good. The mattress is a very firm foam -- not the usual mushy stuff -- and the frame is excellent quality. Great design. I did not buy the cover -- the salesman actually suggested I go to a fabric store to save money.
I bought 2 of these for a small spare bedroom, and leave one 1/2 open to make 3 cubes for a corner couch thing (with foam for backrest). Sewed my own covers. We put the 2 together to make a double bed for sleeping.
Not sure where you guys got the extra cost for the bed feature, I spent about $800 for 2.
Two of the friends that have slept on it, slept better than they ever sleep -- both slept late which they never do.
So far we couldn't be happier.
