A Favorite Movie Home: The Royal Tennenbaums
I love interesting interiors and I'm crazy for great movies, so when the two intersect, it's heaven. From glam to gritty, authentic or over-the-top, whenever an interior and storyline align well in a film, it's a very memorable and influential moment. I'd imagine this twin passion rings true for most of us, so in honor of last night's Oscar winners, here's a look at some of our most popular posts on cinema style …

The apartment with the huge greenhouse in the middle from Green Card. I fantasize about it regularly.
"before sunset" celine's apartment
"practical magic" the family house
"hope floats" the mother's wacky house at the end of the lane
"moulin rouge" satine's elephant boudoir
Gah! I just watched the RT's last night and was thinking how much I loved the interiors of that movie! Too funny....
I remember liking the house in "Say Anything", but can't quite picture it now.
Helen Hunt's character's apartment in "What Women Want" Great windows, we don't have architecture like that in Hawaii.
-The blue wall in the hallway of the convent in "Doubt"
-Amelie's whole apartment
-Everything in "A Single Man"
I loved the apartment interiors in 'Night Watch' - colorful, quirky, and lots of patterned wallpapers. Never would have guessed that about a Russian sci fi flick.
@LadyJ - Celine's apartment in "Before Sunset". Yes, absolutely! Boho chic.
I'm also a fan of Alex's uber-modern loft in the new series "Nikita" (picture seen here: http://wwwanderlust.tumblr.com/post/3244744718 )
Come to think of it, the 90's La Femme Nikita series had an amazing apartment set, too.
But those are both tv shows, and technically the topic is movies, so I'll digress :)
Did you see that "The King's Speech" was done on the same set as a gay porn film?

"John and Mary", a '69 movie with Hoffman and Farrow: fabulous interiors.
Meg Ryan's apartment in You've Got Mail. Love it.
I love the decor in "It's complicated". We rented the movie and took stills of the decor...I love the interior window walls.
another vote for the Practical Magic house and the scene from Big Lebowski when he is at the loft Oh and the director's beach house...yum!
I really liked Robert De Niro's Montréal apartment/loft in THE SCORE.
It was masculine without being an overbearing man cave (so many bachelor pads seem to be all hard edges and chrome), and it just looked inviting and warm.
Margot Tennenbaum made me start hoarding weejuns.
The houses in Gosford Park, Atonement and all the sets of old Avengers tv shows excite me.
*Christina Ricci's bedroom in "Penelope"
*Meg Ryan's apartment in "Prelude to a Kiss"
*Meg Ryan's house in City of Angels"
*Meryl Streep's loft in "The Hours"
and yet another vote for the house in
"Practical Magic" I love the big kitchen ;-)
Not a home, but the interiors and design in general in 2001:ASO have always blown me away
And it's an incredibly difficult film to watch, but I did steal some ideas from the apartment at the end of Irreversible
Practical Magic - The family home
Sixteen Candles - Iona's apartment
200 Cigarettes - Monica's loft
Bell, Book and Candle - Gillian's apartment/shop
Amelie - Amelie's apartment
please make this a regular feature.
Penelope's attic apartment from Penelope. I even bookmarked AT's little feature on it.

Practical Magic..hands down my favorite of all time. I read that it was built esp for the film. I've wanted to visit the San Juan islands ever since..sigh...
'Umbrellas of Cherbourg' has always been my favorite film of interiors. Followed closely by 'Two for the Road.'
kjt1211, I second Green Card!
Also, Ghost Writer. I'm not saying that gray interior was my dream come true... but I think about it all. the. time. I guess you can say it *haunts* me. ;) Btw, why was that movie overlooked at the Oscars?
@tintin Oh The Hours!! Meryl Streep's apartment is amazing in that- also, anything remotely period before the 1950s is awesome. So, sets for Virginia Woolf's house in it? SWEET!
To the best of my memory, in the Hitchcock film, Stage Fright, Lionel Jeffries (RIP) had a wonderful sleeping alcove. I've always wanted one like that.
I want to live in the Incredibles' house!
Oops, it must have been Alistair Sims who had that sleeping alcove -- not Lionel.
"The Lake House"!!
Jason Robard's apartment in A Thousand Clowns, complete with alcove bed and replete with eagles...
Correction: Iona's apartment was in Pretty In Pink
not Sixteen Candles
I second Meg Ryan's apartment in You've Got Mail, but my all-time favorite has to be the English cottage in The Holiday.
movies of wes anderson have something special and yet amazing with colours, interiors, exteriors. true color magic!!! let's take darjeeling limited for example :)
I bonded with a friend over The Royal Tenenbaums and those kooky interiors. Sigh!
And I agree, the house from Practical Magic (yum). And the greenhouse (actually the whole apartment) from Green Card - so lovely.
But I've always wanted to live in the Addams Family house (movie and series), but any old spooky abode/laboratory is fine by me (practically every inch of the Harry Potter interiors, esp the Black family home...). Double sigh!
Ah, through film, i can have an Edwardian laboratory, some bubbling beakers and mad scientist to call my own.....I also have a fetish for the set from Young Frankenstein!
The Italian villa in Enchanted April...Bronte's apartment in Green Card...the kid's room in Search for Bobby Fisher...the living room in Kramer v Kramer. What about descriptions of rooms and houses in literature?
Love:
The Backup Plan - Zoe/Jennifer Lopez's apartment
Waiting to Exhale - Angela Bassett's character's house
I second the love expressed for:
The Lake House
The Holiday (adore both the houses)
This is a fun post and I can't believe no one has said this yet but....
The Loft in GHOST!!!
