In small spaces we often look for attractive ways in which to maximize the storage capabilities of our humble homes and an antique apothecary cabinet is a beautiful solution that offers many small drawers for all your odds and ends.
Originally used by apothecaries, or old-timey pharmacists who performed surgeries and offered medical advice, these robust chests of drawers were home to all the ingredients used in the various tonics and salves prepared during that time.

Shaw's Original Fir...
I don't care if these ever go out of style, I will always love looking at apothecaries...
I'm with pureevil. I can't wait til they go out of style so I can finally get my hands on one!
Reminds me of the Friends episode about the Pottery Barn Apothecary Table.
#3 looks like a library card catalog. Same idea, though, I guess.
@dcirene I'm reminded of that episode also: it was such a funny one.
I've always wanted one of these, or a card catalog, but when I think about it I realize it would be impractical because the thing would take up space and not offer any kind of practical storage to me since I don't have lots of small stuff.
I bought a small one a few years back to use as a jewelry box. I love it!
I had great apothecary drawers in one house, but I could never find my socks!
I have one, and love the look. But if you live in a small space, be warned: They really don't hold very much, and they take up as much "footprint" space as a dresser.
This is the look we went for in a client's kitchen. Does anyone know where to get inexpensive library/apothecary pulls for existing drawers?
Amydesigns42, the hardware comes up on ebay all the time.
I just found a card catalog on CL after *years* of searching - $15! Needs some refinishing, some new stain, new hardware - but way better than $200 on ebay!
And the size is the kicker - 12 drawers, and will fit perfectly on my mapchest.
I would love to have a chest like that. My jewelry armoire is great, but I just wish it was that large and had that much storage
