Staying In? Stay Entertained With These Apps!

As the weather begins to get colder for many of us, the allure of staying inside for the night begins to look all the more appealing. There are ways to avoid the dreadful hibernation blues thanks to all sorts of awesome new apps and applications out there. After the jump we've collected some of our top picks for things to do which allow us to enjoy ourselves all the same.

Seamless Web/App
The firs thing you're going to need is food if you're staying in, right? Well how about some delivery! Seamless is a new service which partners with many restaurants throughout your city and really makes the delivery/ordering process as painless as possible. First you can search restaurants by wait time, delivery minimum, proximity, highest-reviewed, or style. Adding food to your cart is super simple and it even allows you to add custom directions for any food you need special preparation for. There is a convenient tally which tells you how much you still need to order to reach the delivery minimum. And finally, after you order you're sent a confirmation email that the restaurant has received it. You can also tweet your order as well -- kinda fun.

Netflix
Just today Netflix has announced they won't be instating their insane idea to separate their DVD delivery service into a separate company, Qwikster. Despite the backlash over all that hoopla, Netflix remains (in our opinion) the best dvd rental/streaming service available right now. Their selection is impressive and it's very easy to stream videos through the web or order a DVD or two for the night in. If you're looking for a few hacks to get yourself some better Netflix service look no further.

Words with Friends
This is an awesome app to play with a friend who is also staying in for the night. If you two are together, you can easily play back and forth simply by handing over the cellphone or you can still play from your own respective houses if you agree to a time to begin and then just shoot into rapid-fire mode (that way you're not waiting a day and a half for your opponent to move).

Friskies Cat Apps
If you plan on spending some quality time with your cat while you're at home, you should consider downloading one of these Friskie apps for them to play with. We've found that their success is varied. Some cats seem to be really into chasing the digital mouse or catching the fish but others couldn't be less interested. But thankfully they're free so it's no money lost.

Spotify
Since the service has become free to use and now has open registration, many people have been flocking to Spotify to use its incredible new features. Not only can you listen to a massive database of music (for free), there are strong social networking capabilities built in as well. Using your Facebook profile you can see who of your other friends are using Spotify as well as chat and share playlists with them. This could be a fun way to share music together during a night spent in.

Turntable.fm
This is another entertaining way to hear new music and boast your musical prowess. Become your own DJ from the comfort of your own home. Join a room, mostly based around genres of music, and begin to spin the hits while others in the chat room rate your songs, give you points, and choose new avatars. It's quite fun and there is a large array of musical genres that people tend to play from dubstep to classical and everything in between.
