Where one person might see an outdated, unwanted (and maybe scratched) vinyl LP, crafting blogger April Starr of The Flourishing Abode saw the opportunity to piece together a very simple DIY project for the home, both decorative and functional for the record-loving crafty type.

This upcycling project only requires a 12 vinyl record, glue gun, and circular metal planter stand, preferably a midcentury hairpin leg design like April used for her DIY project. You can find these on Etsy and eBay occasionally, alongside flea markets and antique malls. Clean, glue, and mount...easy as that!

Frown! what a way to ruin a record...
I LOOOVE this. Who doesn't have old albums they scratched up or replaced? Great way to recycle those random plant holders too. Thanks April!
Also remember kids: if you don't have anything nice to say, at least make it interesting. :)
Thank you, Raymondleggs! You did not let me down.
Love love great idea, i'm stealing this. RayRay.. don't you got any old scratch albums?
Love it! And if you don't have any scratched records laying around theres always cheap (usually like 99 cents) records with bad music you can pick up from Value Village or Goodwill
Why the heck didn't I think of this? Very cute idea!
Raymondleggs, you would have probably had a conniption at my rock musical wedding. :) I bought a bunch of old records off CL, sprayed 'em silver and used them as chargers under my plates! (I kept the center label intact, because I tried to tailor each record to each guest.) And the cover of my guest book was made out of an old vinyl LP.
I love this little table here. Great idea!
"... both decorative and functional for the record-loving crafty type." This project is also good for the record-hating type.
I think it's cute but I'd be careful about putting a hot mug down without a coaster. Melted vinyl is no fun.
This post really made me think about the differences between our society now and what it was 150 years ago. Back then, a DIY was: Find some trees, spend hundreds of hours a physical exertion, and you've built yourself a home. Now it's: find a stand, place something arbitrary on the stand, and you've got yourself a stand.
hundreds of hours of* physical exertion
Now finding a tree might be a feat by itself... :)
As a confirmed vinyl lover, I shudder!
