In some places water filters are a must. You just can't drink the tap water. Thankfully, this isn't the case in the US. There are laws that make it certain that the water you drink from you tap is safe. That being said, have you ever compared a bottle of spring water to tap water? Sure, we don't mind drinking tap water, but once in a while, a bottle of Evian or Volvic just hits the spot.
Most households now have extra filtering thanks to Brita and other measures. Some houses even have their own underground wells. We know that filtered water tastes great, but there is one thing that most of us are forgetting. These filter pitchers don't really look that great. Usually, you take them out, serve yourself or others, and just put them right back.
The Aqualris Portable Water Purifier is a different take on this. It's actually been designed for tropical regions, so if it becomes available, it would be something that you could travel with easily. However, it also looks pretty great. The design is fresh and attractive, and we've never seen a filter system like this before. Aqualris has a removable filter. The water travels under a layer of converter crystals, which are activated by UVC rays. We don't know how well this system would work, but Talia Radford sure designed a beautiful product. Hopefully, it will be coming out soon.

This thing isn't very practical. Who's going to wait and hold the filter over the glass while the water goes through?
And the ribbon attachment makes it look like a bad wedding party favor.
Coming from somewhere with excellent tasting well water, I could never get used to the taste of bottled water (it all just tastes like the plastic bottle it comes in). As for home-filtered water, it just seems like a hassle to use something like this (like Comicgeek said). I know that some people do have things wrong with their tap water (things do get into well water sometimes) that make it undrinkable but otherwise, is it really worth the hassle? The joke at home is "amoebas taste good." :-)
Umm, to the topic poster, you do realize that Volvic and Evian are basically tap water? Umm, just in a, you know, bottle. A fancy PLASTIC bottle, at that.
The product sure looks pretty. But yeah, having to hold it over the cup each time is going to get annoying.
In the US, the only difference I've had from filtering is that my ice cubes come out clearer.
@ErikTheRed: Yeah. Totally.
