A simple, ingenious grey water system called Aqus just hit our radar this week. It makes so much sense - it collects greywater from the sink to reuse for flushing.
You and your guests use both the sink and toilet as usual, but internally, the system is at work, recycling away...a two person household can reduce their water usage by 5,000 gallons a year by using the Aqus.
Here are a few pluses:
And a minus:
We don't have vanity sink and we don't think the Aqus would look too hot sitting next to the pedestal style one we do have.
If you are willing to spare some cabinet space to save mucho gallons of water the Aqus might work for you - it's available from Vivavi.

This looks like a great idea, especially for those living off of a well like my parents. I am sure desert dwellers would appreciate this product too, since water conservation is a constant goal.
I want to know specifically what the "water hose" looks like running from the vanity to the toilet. I wish there were more details on vivavi!
I wonder if the toilet's only source of water is the Aqus.. because unless the user commonly washes their hands with enough water to fill the toilet tank for the next flush, it seems like the tank would need supplemental water?
I just added another link to the manufacturer's site to my post above - there is lots more info there...
22209 - I have been reading this great discussion over on treehugger.com about this system, including comments about lack of water. Someone suggested using grey water from your shower.

thanks janel!
Grey water from the shower sounds like a great idea!
Its much better than that toilet with the sink perched on the top of it!
I've wondered if the same water is used to fill the toilet as comes out of the faucet in the sink. It's all the same source, right? Or am I way off?
yeas the same water we wash our hands, and dishes in, and drink , and shower in also flushes our toilet-it's such a waste to use perfectly good clean potable water to flush a toilet!! I love this idea!
Did anyone see the Debbie Travis 'From the Ground Up' where they did a similar thing??
New model is now available for $189.00 at www.IWantAQUS.com. Easier to install, works with more toilets and a new consumer-friendly look are some of the new features.
