We'll never forget this banquette from Summer and Josh's Pumped Up Traditional house tour. Its shape follows that of the window bay it's built into and it creates the perfect spot for intimate conversation. So much so that it had us looking for more such shaped banquettes. Here's what we came up with:
Turns out that arced banquettes aren't so easy to come by! There's the slightly arced bench in the second image (beautiful, by the way!) to the segmented benches shown in some of the other examples. But nothing quite like Summer and Josh's banquette in the first image up top. So this shape really is quite special! Do you, like us, think that sitting in a circular arrangement encourages better interaction and conversation? Have you spotted an arced banquette before (or even had the pleasure of sitting in one)? The fourth one looks terribly uncomfortable. But the rest are grand.
I think it's the 5th that looks terribly uncomfortable! Getting a little tired of chairs that are for viewing, not for sitting...
As soon as I saw this post, I remembered the awesome (huge!) circular window seat in the movie Just Like Heaven with Reese Witherspoon - I have been trying to find a decent picture of it to no avail (all the screen shots I find are too dark) - maybe you will have better luck! It was beautiful, with a stunning view of San Francisco - and big enough for a round coffee table in the middle. Love! :)
Recently purchased a banquette (no longer pictured) from here:

Overstock has a petite one right now.

I like #1 because it isn't around a table. It's nice to be able to sit in a circle with other people, but it isn't nice having to scoot around a piece of furniture to get to your seat.
I love love love banquettes and hope to have one some day...
The first one is definitely my favourite!
Can anyone tell me where to get that yellow pillow with the silver-ish design or the blue with the dark (maybe dark gray..maybe brown?) print from the first picture??
What is the color of the gray paint.
What a coincidence... over the weekend I was thinking about the little yellow cottage I've been dreaming of purchasing in the Val St-François, quiet and undiscovered little part of Quebec, and doing a little daydream doodling in my head. Adding a window here, a window there... and a banquette seating extension in the kitchen. I hadn't thought of making it round, but this is so, so lovely! Not only would it make for more comfortable seating at meals, but it would add a lot of value to the little undervaled cottage! Thank you for this post, it's exactly the right idea at the right time. :))
