When you have a home, you need some kind of security system. It all depends on exactly what it is. Thankfully, condos and most apartment buildings are already secured in some fashion. From access cards to video surveillance, as well as security guards, some places are well protected. Houses need extra security. It's been a few years since web-based home security systems have been on the market. Now there is a new one which promises to be more intelligent that your average system, kind of like having your own private security guard in a box.

Archerfish is the world's first mobile video intelligence system, that can notify you of events happening in your home via your smarphones or email clients. Unlike most of the other surveillance systems, you can select specific events they want to be notified of. This way, the system isn't constantly sending alerts and unnecessary video footage to you. You can specify to be notified when someone or a vehicle enters the camera view, when an object is in motion or at a predetermined time.

It's a complete solution and you get the Archerfish Smartbox, access to the SmartPortal, two cameras and cables out of the box. The portal is accessible via any PC, PDA or mobile device. Events are easy to select. If the connection to the internet is lost, Archerfish stores events and forwards them once connectivity has been restored. More than one Smartbox can be installed and monitored via the same portal. This is an interesting solution to home security. On top of being notified if anything happens at your home, you can customize alerts and actions to do exactly what you want them to do when there is an event at your home while you're gone. It's great because you don't want the police to be notified for every little occurrence. The Archerfish system is available from Cernium for $1.499.
