Musical chairs in the world of shelter mags! It's been a few years of major change in many ways for decor magazines. Between closings and job switches, almost nothing is as it was a few years ago with the group of magazines we've held subscriptions to. The latest big shake-up at Architectural Digest now affects two titles...
...since it has been officially announced that Margaret Russell is leaving Elle Decor to replace Paige Rense, effective this September, according to Otto-Otto.
It's big news - Margaret Russell has been at Elle Decor for twenty years, meaning that there are now two magazines going forward without their long time leaders (Rense was at AD for 35+ years!). The New York Times reports that, as well as gaining a new editor-in-chief, the magazine will make a move from Los Angeles to New York.
Decor fans, let us know: Does this news change your expectations about Architectural Digest? Who do you think will take the reins at Elle Decor?

Maybe Donna Warner will take over Elle Decor.
I read about it this weekend - It will be good to see a fresh editorial perspective within AD.
Since ED is so successful, they'd do better to promote from within the existing team rather than pull someone from a failed book.
hope she makes AD interesting rather than making her boring.
I subscribe to both AD and Elle Decor. I think AD's articles are too short and they often mention design elements but never show them. Makes me crazy. AD's focus on ultra-high-end spaces also leaves me unsatisfied...anything is possible with all that money...but I'm not aspiring to reproduce any looks.
Hopefully Margaret Russel will bring Architectural Digest to a new level.... more sophisticated and trendy (as the AD Europe for example).
So far Architectural Digest US only futures big/boring mansions with lack of taste.
Go Margaret.... best of luck to you!!
Thought they'd pick her... her style seems to fit with AD's (that said, U.S. Elle Deco is the only publication in the Elle Deco stable that I make a point of *not* buying).
Hope this means Dominique Browning is coming back...
