Name: Ariana
Location: Amberg
City: Bavaria, Germany
My Home: Three Bedroom Apartment, Third Floor, 400 years old!
I just moved to Amberg, Germany, and live downtown on the main street. The city is 975 years old, and surrounded by a double wall, complete with watch towers, etc. It's super cool! I do my shopping at a local open market in the city center, and of course it is both beautiful and sustainable.
Ariana's Guide to Amberg
1. Favorite Neighborhood Home Store
- GLAS NATTER: Georgenstr. 35
This gourmet cooking shop is next door to me.
2. Favorite Bookstore
- HUGENDUBEL: Marktplatz 3
Kind of like a Borders.
3. Favorite Coffee Shop, Café, or Restaurant
- BAVARIAN COFFEE ROASTERS / CAFE BAROCO: Viehmarkt 11
I can see it from my bedroom window! They have the best coffee I've tasted since I arrived in Germany.
4. Best Place to Pick Up Groceries
- MARKETPLATZ: City Center
In our market square!
5. Best Neighborhood Park
- There is one between the city walls.

Would love to see how your apt looks being 400 years old and all.
I lived in Hohefels Germany from 94-96 and loved it there! We spent most of our weekends shopping around Regensburg. Having passed through Amberg numerous times, it is so nice to see your post and reminisce. We're hoping to win the lottery so we can get back for a visit! I would love to see more pictures as well. Hope you're having fun!
I lived in Regensburg for about a year - absolutely beautiful town, great Biergaerten along the Danube. You're making me miss it!
What a beautiful place to live! Those trees and the river and buildings are all amazing. I'm going to Bavaria this summmer, maybe i'll check this place out
Amberg is a lovely city! My cousin lives there, and we were amazed that the tourism was never overrunning the town.
Thanks for the comments! I really love it here. Everywhere I look, the view is fantastic. The picture with the pedestrian zone sign is of our place. The top story-- you can see our living and bedroom windows.
Sing we're still getting settled, the inside isn't really photo-ready yet, but you can see some home snippets, Amberg and read more about our adventures on my blog: and-here-we-are.blogpsot.com
I messed up with one of the picture uploads-- I meant to share a picture of a playground between fortified walls!
Oops! Make that "since we're still getting settled."
Have fun in Amberg! I was born and rised up in Regensburg, so Amberg was sometimes a nice trip to see somthing different, walk around an enjoy a cup of coffee or two in one of the lovely cafes or bakeries.
How exciting!! It sounds like you have everything you'd need just down the street from you. :)
Ariana,
I'm moving to Amberg from Florida with my husband in May (he's moving in early March) and we are having a little trouble finding a rental. Are there any ideas you could give me to guide me in the right direction? I love reading your blog and I'm very excited about moving to Amberg! Thanks, Bianca

Ariana,
I'm taking command of a clinic in Vilseck this summer and I'm hoping to live in Amberg. If you have any advice for house or apartment hunting, I'd really appreciate it! If any other users are familiar with the area, I'd value their opinions as well =).
Cheers,
