This is Arlo's temporary home. When designing his nursery we knew that it had to fulfill two main requirements: it needed to be easy on the wallet and easy to move and set back up in a new home (my husband is finishing up his PhD, and we are unsure where we will end up next!).
We desired to create a fun and playful space while working within these two constraints. The need to have a room that would be easy to move paired up nicely with my design vision. I wanted the room to be simplistic and somewhat mod, and one thing just built upon another. The end result was a fun geometric mix of zig-zags, circles, and various other shapes throughout the room and a palette of bright colors. It came together to be visually stimulating without being overpowering.
It may not be the fanciest nursery, but it is incredibly practical and meets our needs perfectly! (oh, and don't mind the color of our walls...not my favorite, but I wasn't up for the daunting task of painting the walls of our rental when I knew that we would be moving soon!)
To make the room more move friendly I chose decorations that could easily be taken down and put back up again, and minimal furniture that fits well in a small space. To work within our small budget I incorporated vintage pieces that were already in our home, a few DIY projects, many etsy purchases, and accents from more modern chain stores such as West Elm and Chiasso.
In addition to giving the room a mod feel, I also wanted to incorporate elements that reflect our family's interests and hobbies. We surf and love being outdoors, and my husband plays the guitar, thus the bird prints on the wall above the changing table are one of my favorite things about the room. Being eco-conscious and maintaining a "green" home is important to us. I added the dracaena plant to help filter the air.
All in all, it is now our favorite room in the house! We love spending time in it, and Arlo seems to love it too! It has become a gathering place for quality family time.
Thanks Kristen, well done!
