While relocating into my new loft/attic space (I have decided to call it a loftic) I did what I usually do when I move into a new home---put up a fresh coat of paint and clean the dickens out of it! There’s something about a fresh start in a clean, new room that starts any new living situation out right. The smell of a thoroughly cleaned space is unbeatable, especially with these favorite aromatic cleaners…
I am a sucker for clean smells—new car smell is one of my favorites. Whenever I clean my home, I make sure to finish off with some extra air freshening. I have been a big fan of Febreeze, the original scent, since it came out. The curtains, carpet and any other upholstered or fabric items get a quick shot of it at the end of every cleaning session. Their Air Effects air freshener has helped in times when my dog starts to show signs of needing a bath.
For my vinyl floors, I like to use a Swiffer WetJet—it’s pretty quick and easy for the small area that I have to clean, and the smell of the cleaner is quite fresh and not overpowering.
Murphy’s Oil Soap is darn near an aphrodisiac. When I had wood floors, this was my go-to for cleaner. I still use it on my wood furniture from time to time. The scent just rings of squeaky-clean happiness.
My roommate just introduced me to Thieves Household Cleaner, an all-natural concentrated solution of therapeutic-grade essential oils that can be used on any surface. I mopped with it. I scrubbed with it. I dusted with it (boy, did it give my wood a nice glow). And my room smells delicious! Made of clove, lemon, cinnamon, eucalyptus and rosemary, the scent left behind is warmer and homier than many other cleaners. This might take the cake, especially because it is so multi-purpose. What are your favorite clean smells?
