Thanks to our recent house tour of Joe's amazing condo and garden, we've been on the lookout for art deco home decor. In Legendary Beast (on U Street), hidden among all the eclectic jewelry, we found some reasonably priced art deco accessories from the 1920's. See more below the jump...
Legendary Beast only carries items made before WWII so the offering is random and dependent on what the owner finds at estate sales. The owner has an Egyptian fetish, so you'll find lots of Egyptian accessories from the 1920's. The store is only open Friday through Sunday and on holiday Mondays, but if you like art deco, we recommend a visit.

I wouldn't call most of this stuff Art Deco, though.
Actually these pieces are Art Noveau. Though the Art Noveau period went from the late 1890's to the early 1900's and Art Deco from the 1920's through the 1930's the themes in these pieces - Egyptian and classical nymphs - are Art Noveau. Art Deco was all about the new 'modern' and industrialization.
Was that pedantic enough do you think?

not pedantic at all, i'm glad to see someone actually address that -ahem- little fact.
Although the Egyptian stuff gets somewhat muddied with/in the Art Deco period, when Egyptian Revival (due to ballyhooed discoveries in Egypt) got an Art Deco veneering. Think the Egyptian Theater in Los Angeles.
I think though, in all fairness, the Egyptian stuff here is just repro-Egyptian...
