Believe it or not, this piece of artwork was created by the artist by hand-cutting and hand-fitting thousands of squares and shards of junk mail.
Sandhi Schimmel Gold studied mosaics in Turkey, glass in Venice and has applied this knowledge and experience to his her current work. Many of the artist's works are portraits but Sandhi has done some landscapes and other various works.

Sandhi's policy on the environment?
"Every little "tile" you see was once advertising ephemera, junk mail, a postcard or packaging. I save everything and upcycle this resource to create fine art. I also repurpose old canvas and frames. Why throw them in a land fill when they can be reclaimed and reused?"

Shame on you Apartment Therapy!!! Sandy Schimmel Gold is a woman, and you spelled her name incorrectly. Two minutes on her website, which you included a link to, would have given you this information. Thank you for highlighting a very interesting artist, but please, get your facts straight!!
The artist's name is still misspelled and only one of the pronouns referencing the artist has been corrected.
Still, it's so vivid... And beautiful.
