Today I have something that is the design equivalent of Monkeys in a Barrel: Algues by the Bouroullec brothers. One part room screen and two parts art installation, this stuff continues to amaze me, even though it came out in 2004...

Last week I took these pics in the Vitra offices in MePa. It is a beautiful display, in colors that I have never seen before. They have done a mix of red and black, which produces a deep, brooding backdrop that even Julian Schnabel would love. Check it out.

Though The Algue is a high design product, what I love about it is that it requires imagination and a totally DIY approach. With shape shifting and mixing of colors, the possibilities for interior design are endless.

Algue is available in packs of 6 ($37) and 50 ($210) via DesignPublic, Unica Home and MoMA Design Store
