Name: Tina Gonsalves, Matt Wild & Pablo
Location: Port Douglas — Queensland, Australia
I am an artist and my husband Matt Wild is a chef. We travel internationally with our three year old son Pablo. Our work means we travel a lot, so we rent our houses when we are not living in them. We've just completed The Artists' Treehouse. We were on a very small budget, so creativity was key.
The house has a light and airy feel which is essential in the tropics. We attempted to capture the feel of the tropical houses that we remembered growing up in. We salvaged old cane furniture from op shops and palm wallpapers from eBay. We painted the inside of the house white, and opened the house up to capture the sea breeze. We filled it with major collections of inter/nationally renowned artists. We spent a lot of time sourcing items from op shops, garage sales and demolition sites.
The Treehouse features three bedrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, dining table for eight, two living rooms, two bathrooms, with a balcony, garden sitting area and acourtyard area leading to shared pool.

I am in love with all of the color. And the art is awesome! I want to see more of it!
So nice. Would love to see the whole thing. Please make this a house TOUR not just a house call.
What a cheerful place! A full house tour would be great, but if people want to see more, I notice at the bottom of the write-up there is a link to a website with more photos.
I liked the house. Well I was expecting a real tree house. A bit disappointed there.
What is the name of the artist of the blue/black/pink picture hanging above the doorway??? i love it!!!
Finally a tropical house! My dream!
I really need to copy the palm tree mural. :)
This is meant only as a constructive critique:
The first pic is too crowded and jarring visually with all the different kinds of art. There's no negative space (white walls) for the art to breathe and have the viewer contemplate its meaning before the eye is drawn it to (yet another) artwork.
You should try selectively alternating & rotating pieces in your art collection with a 'less-is-more' aesthetic... instead of displaying all of the art at once using every available inch of free wall space.
my 2¢.
I love this. I don't think it's too much art because it's one area of the space, I love everything about it.
I like things all jumbled up sometimes, if it works throughout the house (which the pictures suggest it does) - it matches the lush plantings & heavy weather of Port Douglas...
People are allowed different styles, none is right or wrong. Breathe more.
Irrelevant to this thread...but how do I post a question on a discussion board?
