It's not exactly reinventing the wheel, but these new Aspiral Clocks come pretty close. This spinning clock uses a ball to tell time rather than conventional clock hands. Fun and functional!

Aspiral Clocks are handmade in London. The face of the clock slowly turns, sending the ball on a 12 hour journey along the spiral ledge. When it reaches 12 o'clock the ball drops through a hole and begins the process all over again! via: Design Milk

Superbly cool and wonderful. I want ONE!!! boo hooo I live in Canada so I guess I'm out of luck unless I go specially to the UK...
Okay, so I suck telling time on clocks, so I would never be able to read this clock. LOL
They look great, but it would give me a headache trying to read the time.
I love it! But like some others....I wonder how many times I'd be late for work before I learned to read the time on this? LOL!
So beautiful! I'd buy one for sure, but there is now way I can afford the $700 price tag.
looks great.
Reminds me of the 1950's "Stadium Checkers" game!
