IKEA is taking their catalog right to the people in Kobe with a decked out monorail train furnished with their brightest selection of seating, window coverings, and an exterior that makes it quite evident that something is a bit different with this train car. A brilliant marketing idea and probably more comfortable than the usual accommodations. Plenty more photos under the jump...

GENIUS! lol
Several years ago, Ikea had a TV ad where they went onto trains and decked everything out. I guess they're really doing it now. How long has they been at it?
Wow -
BART and Muni both need IKEA to come redo their train cars here in the SF Bay Area!
that is excellent.
Great concept but upholstery/slip covers is definitely NOT suitable for high traffic communal public transportation.
I can't imagine how it smells like after a homeless boarded the train, just reminded me the odor of SF Bart- YUCK!
i am so jealous of the extended fabric range offered abroad!
Japan doesn't have homeless people.
IKEA are offering the same fabrics here in the states, some of them have just not arrived yet.
Fun.
Haha, Japan *does* have homeless people. Sometimes (I'd even say usually) they're cleaner. But I will also note that Japanese trains are better maintained than most I've seen in the states.
BART, Muni, AND CalTrain!!! IKEA, we need you!
Muni is not brave. It's beige.
