Name: Dana
Home Then: 1700 sq. foot Logan Square apartment
Home Now: Same Apartment, Living & Dining Room Switcheroo
Dana's apartment is one of the 40 featured in our new book: Apartment Therapy Presents: Real Homes, Real People, Hundreds of Design Solutions
. We first met Dana at an event at Hejfina. She told us that she had recently finished decorating her new apartment, from scratch, after getting rid of nearly all her previous furniture in the move. We shot her House Tour on a super hot, sunny summer day and her style came shining through.

Dana has this to say about the changes since the original shoot:
"What’s new in my space is that I switched my living room and dining rooms. It was mainly because I found this amazing three piece sectional from the 60’s at the Mt. Sinai Thrift Store in mint condition for $200 (!) and couldn’t walk away from it. I only had to re-stuff it with fresh foam and have it cleaned at The Furniture Shop. But, it was too big for my existing living room, so I switched the rooms and the sectional is a perfect fit. I call this room my Merv Griffin set – it creates a great vibe for my many wonderful guests! It’s very conducive to cocktail parties, conversation and watching movies on the wall with a projector. I’m having custom accent pillows made for it now.
I’ve also since sold many items that no longer spoke to me like my red Knoll chairs, green leather couch and some art work. It felt great to streamline and my taste has definitely changed in the last year. I’ve been dreaming of selling everything and starting all over again from scratch just like I did when I moved here. I’ll keep you posted on the apartment sale when I have one!

Lately, I’ve been coveting this sexy pair of Arne Norell safari chairs (photo attached), and I’m most recently moved by Brazilian design and sculpture.
Also, my house tour sparked a side career - I was hired to do a residential interior in Bucktown, which I’m still working on. It’s been a real gift, getting paid to find beautiful things, and it’s complimented my hospitality design work very well. "
Thanks for the update, Dana!

Love the new couch. I have no idea why, but I love it.
I LOVE that new sofa! I'm so jealous! What a great find.
Awesome to read that your house tour sparked a side career.
Good for you!!!!
This is such an amazing space, and I'm so jealous of Dana's abilities. I'm trying desperately to steer my apartment in a more funky direction, but it's like trying to turn a steam engine. sigh. This gives me inspiration.

When design takes priority, the result is strange closets.
let me know if you ever decide to get rid of your letters!
aaugh! your yellow sofa is what inspired me to recover my couch with mustard colored velvet. did you sell it or do you still have it?
I like the old sofa better. The new one doesn't work with the coffee table or the paint color on the walls.
I'm loving the sofa -
- but now its time to paint the room powder blue...
I like both sofas, but I have to say the yellow velvet looks so warm and comfy- I hope it went to a loving home.
Hi, it's Dana Joy. I still have the yellow sofa. I moved it to my bedroom and it is such a great, comfy, warm piece that I can't part with it. It appreciates all your loving comments and so do I.
whew, good to know. it just looked so happy, I'm glad you didnt part with it.
Dana--
I would love to know the photographer's name who did the fantastic photo of the couple on the beach. I'm really taken by it!!!!
Thanks--
Hi, Dana!
I'd like to know where you sent the sofa to have it steamed; it would be a great resource for us.
Thanks!
i just got rid of an almost identical sectional..but it was blue...a really ugly, fake velvet, covered in blue flowers, blue.
i wanted to get it reupholstered but couldn't afford to do it..so I sold it to a guy for $125.
The editor from Atomic Ranch Magazine even posted my question and photos of it in the latest issue.
