Stores like this are what I really miss about living in Boston. It seemed like everywhere you went there was some cool little store to explore. Of course it's easier on my wallet now that I've moved.

i'd venture that most boston dwellers know abodeon and frequent it for mid-century wares (or at least window shopping). i tend to look to AT for more unique home resources.

also, the typos scattered throughout the sparse text were a distraction.

Abodeon is one of my favorites, and I second the comment about Greenward. I don't think Abodeon is particularly well known, especially for folks on the other side of the river.

I'm not sure why the negativity towards the selection, I think it fits right in on AT.

We live in Cambridge and adore this store! There's an amazing array of modern - both vintage and new - so you never know what you'll discover. Although we've purchased lots of things there for ourselves and others, I love the fact that you can wander in with an empty pocketbook and still have a great time.

That store. I LOVE that store. Stores like that store are what I miss about Boston. Sigh... Boston....

Anyway, I love that they have a mix of vintage finds and useful things (like super-strong magnet hooks)

Oh, I forgot to mention that I love Abodeon in my first post.

My other plug for the day will have to be Magpie, in nearby Davis Square. Not so much home goods, but very cool and fun.

I live in NY and I have 2 friends in Cambridge. (one lives around the corner from this place.) I love this store. I go every time I am up there and just look.
I bought a stool (my friend brought it down for me cause it wasn't going to happen on the bus.) I buy a lot of stuff there.

This is one of the must "stop-ins" for me whenever I walked from Porter to Harvard, I'm a huge fan of it! Did you get a chance to see the vintage cameras or the vinyl records they have in the back room?

I'm interested to hear what your favorite item in the store is, if you're willing to share your thoughts.

As a certified resident of Boston/Cambridge, I have never heard of this place! You make it sound so inviting ! I'm particularly excited by those vintage pins and the book holder. What fun.

Yes! My favorite store! I, too, was hoping the finalists would turn me on to a more obscure locale, but maybe that will come with time as AT Boston grows.

Siobhan, I love Greenward, too. In fact, I bought a beautifully designed, stainless steel kitchen compost there a few months ago. I will certainly check out Magpie.

jhy720, a couple of weeks ago, Abodeon had a fabulous set of 6 espresso cups and saucers, each one in a deep 70ies color - green, orange, yellow, red, etc. Of course, they were gone when I went back for the post. During my last visit, I got a kick out of their collection of vintage staplers.

Hey, great lead-in. I love confetti, and it makes a nice counterpoint to scandanavian dishware. Really hooked my interest.

I've driven by many times, but now I am definitely going inside. As a "newer" resident of Mass, I am loving the Boston posts. Keep 'em coming.

It's too bad the owner never seems to appreciate anyone shopping at his mostly overpriced shop. You get the cold shoulder on every visit. :(

Been to Abodeon many times and I love it! It's nice to see them get a plug on AT. Definitely fits with the type of stores and products that AT usually promotes. I heard the owner imports many of the products himself from Denmark, Scandinavia, and other places.

However, Abodeon's website has "been under construction" for at least 8 years. For those of you outside the Cambridge area, don't hold your breath for web purchases.

Reside on Concord Ave. is pretty amazing too, you can drool over their stuff online at resideinc.com it's better to go into the store and explore though.

I was going to write about Abodeon for the Boston search, but I didn't have the time to get over there and then wound up missing the deadline. So therefore I'll have to say that that was a good choice. Haha.

This is great, Alyssa. As one of the "other side of the river" Bostonians, I haven't been to Abdoeon, but I'll definitely stop by after reading this. It looks like somewhere I'd love. -A

I don't think the owner gives the cold shoulder at all. Maybe you're just used to shopping in places where the staff follows you around, breathlessly hoping you'll buy something. I think it's kind of nice to be able to look around undisturbed. I've always gotten a very friendly reply whenever I have a question about something.

I LOVE this shop. You can get really great things here - some priced low, some priced a bit high...but, its all worth it. I love how the owners leave you alone but are more than happy to answer any questions. I used to go here as a teenager and poke around (i'm sure the owners loved that...) but they were always friendly to me!

Thanks for the refreshing post. I love the store, the prose and the unusual, but grammatically correct use of "weaved".

Hey, Thanks Alyssa, you've reminded me that they have Clocky and I'm in the market for a new alarm clock. I actually originally found the store due to a comment here on AT, so I'm happy to see it again.

I've had nothing but great experiences here, the staff is just fantastic, so thank you Abodeon!

joebelt: Dale is probably one of the most laid back shop owners I've ever come across. No, he's not the gushing sort, but I've dealt with him on a several occasions and have never felt slighted or demeaned by him. He's also extremely fair with his business dealings, both in buying and selling (I've conducted business with him on both sides of the counter).
