Seems overly DC like to focus on one block of one street. There are actually other blocks/streets/quadrants in the city.

i love walking through go mama go and noi's story. i guess because i know this store, i thought this posting could have been more descriptive - it seemed a bit superficial to me.

Great pictures, but this post seems a little light on text for an audition as a writer. I would have loved more information on the philanthopist owner or the history of the store- the post clearly hints there is a story to be told...

This is a great post to get you interested in an area of DC. The pictures enticed me to visit the shops mentioned, and I picked up a few things. I definitely will visit again.

Thanks for the comments! I did take all the photos and its nice to get some positive feedback on that aspect of the job. So much of the focus ends up being on the writing (as it should be) that photography side of things isn’t often discussed.

I understand that the critique that this post was fairly concise. My next post (a house tour) is significantly longer and post length is something I hope to play with if I am lucky enough to get to write for ATDC in the future.

mcq – The former owner of the store, Noi Chudnoff was a pretty amazing woman. The store originally started as a booth at eastern market then later moved to its present location. She was a big supporter of the local gay and lesbian community and worked with a variety of organizations and charities including the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force and Whitman-Walker Clinic, Ganymede Arts and the Source Theatre. She eventually had a day named after her. November 10th, 2006 was “Noi Chudnoff Day” in DC.

For an audition piece I didn’t want to focus too much on her to the detriment of the store and the designers they carry. In a perfect world I could have written several posts from my visit there. One on her and the store itself and a couple posts profiling specific artists/items available at the store. This was my attempt at integrating those ideas.

This is such a great post. You would never think that these things would be in a city like DC. When I think of DC, its hard to think of anything beyond politics and blandness. It's great to see that DC has interesting shops and actual culture.

Finally a blog that doesn't ramble and try to show us everything all at once. Its refreshing to focus on a bright spot of the city and really show what its about. Very well put together.. kudos!

I liked the post by SaraD. A picture is worth a thousand words...Great photos! The comments to back up the pics were good too. It would have been nice to be able to 'click thru' to specific areas of interest...but I know there are limits in time and space.

I think this is a great article showcasing the store 'go mama go!'. After reading through Sara's post I find myself wanting to go to the store to look around. The pictures she included give me a great sense of what treasures that can be found in the store. Sara did a great job; I applaud her!

I think I found my next favorite store, or at least my girlfriend will appericate that I have better taste. Thanks for bring this store to the public.
