It's Escapes Month at AT, so we're finding ways to bring the exotic into our homes. The Washingtonian features Ruth Noble Groom’s Eastern Shore, MD farm. She rigged up a chandelier in her tree (shown above) which is a more elaborate version of some of the lights Maxwell shared in his 7.17.08 email. The last place I lived had trees in the backyard and I had all kinds of things hanging in them: hummingbird feeders, small windchimes, jelly jar tealights, 99 cent store oddities that reflected the sunlight... now I have a large backyard with (as yet) no trees and I miss seeing the birds zoom in and out and the soft tinkles of the chimes.
I'm working on a landscape plan that can be done in stages, but it will be at least a year (maybe a little more) before we reach the phase of putting in trees. I'll keep that top picture in a file for future reference.
