This month it's Bedroom Month on AT. Last week I put together a list of Best Bedding sources, but had to leave out a few great ones because they don't do sheets, just blankets. Today I want to introduce you to two really great blanket/bedspread sources that are TOTALLY different. Consider them iconoclasts.
Fold Bedding was started by Max and Linda Geiser in San Francisco in 2000. I first met them at ICFF in 2004 and was instantly drawn to the bold modern colors that they were combining with luscious, soft, thick wool blanketing. They were doing pillows and bedspreads then. Now they do much more with mobiles and Wallter wall decor being one of their best sellers. We still love their blankets and pillows best.
Swans Island is totally different. Started by one family who fled the city for a simpler life in the early 90's, their blankets are hand-dyed and hand-woven by a small group of craftspeople up near where the rare sheep roam in Maine.
These blankets are super soft and come in unusual rich colors (some made from crushed bugs). They also have a really wide range, including baby blankets if you want a gift or to spend less money.
Right now is a good time to check both companies out as both Fold and Swans Island have stuff on sale. Swans, in particular, is notable with 30% off all throws, which is a good thing as they are NOT cheap.
