Small print and textile design shops have been making a comeback in the last five years as folks have been looking for more and more original designs with a handmade touch. Galbraith & Paul is one of my favorites. Their sense of color and form is unique, rich and instantly comforting. As they put it, they combine "the bold graphics of Marimekko, the painterly qualities of The Bloomsbury Group, and the hand printed textures of William Morris textiles." Indeed.
Started as a hand papermaking studio in 1986 by Liz Galbraith and Ephraim Paul, Galbraith & Paul has grown, grown, grown! They've moved into shades for lighting and fabrics for upholstery and pillows. They even do rugs to the trade.
Look how tired they are with all the work they've done! ;-)
But what you should draw your attention to are their shades for lighting and fabric patterns on shantung silk as well as linen. These all look like the sort of stuff your hippest grandmother had in her house. An easy purchase is a pillow, next up are the great pendants in Smokebrush that Room & Board constantly promotes, and then there's upholstering your whole sofa.
